The Web Development Manager is responsible for the technical health and function of the United Nations Foundation’s websites, while also consulting with teams across the Foundation on technical requirements, product innovation strategy, and sustainable best practices for digital projects. He/She is responsible for the production of front-end code for digital projects as necessary, requiring experience with CSS, HTML, Javascript, PHP, and Ruby. Additionally, the Web Development Manager will be responsible for sharing knowledge and experience through strategic planning and management for the technical delivery of projects being executed by external agencies and contractors.
The Web Development Manager works closely with the Director of Technology and Digital Services to design technology strategy, establish web development best practices, integrate web standards, and implement web development processes and frameworks. This role will collaborate with members of the Public Affairs team to develop digital advocacy and fund-raising products across various marketing campaigns and build user-interfaces for administering the United Nations Foundation’s web properties. These collaborations will maximize technology investments through the creation of accessible pattern libraries to maintain a consistent user experience both for staff and United Nations Foundation audiences.
The Web Development Manager will provide support, technical documentation, and training to Foundation staff pertaining to sustainable best practices for Content Management Systems, Web Development, and how to use analytics for data-informed decision making. This role will mentor and train staff to increase understanding and application of technology to meet organizational goals and cultivate innovative projects.
Web Development
- Update, maintain and develop code and features for the United Nations Foundation’s websites.
- Build reusable code and libraries for future use.
- Works with internal stakeholders to gather requirements based on technical and UI / UX needs.
- Evaluate UI / UX designs and ensure their technical feasibility.
- Perform tests to ensure projects have mobile and cross-browser compatibility.
- Administer and maintain the United Nations Foundation Git environment/code repository.
- Integrate necessary tracking code for Google Analytics and Google Tag manager into websites.
Project Management
- Participate in Project Management meetings to provide web development expertise for both internally developed and externally developed projects.
- Assist with Project Management of web related projects by outlining milestones needed to meet deadlines.
- Track technical tasks and issues in a way that leads to understandable choices for decision makers including potential risks and level of effort estimates.
- Work with the Director of Technology and the Senior Communications Direct of Digital Media to prioritize web development projects and issues.
- Participate in review and analysis of proposals for projects with a web development component and reviews the work done by external agencies and developers to ensure needs and requirements have been met.
- 7-10 years of experience in related sectors, including Code Development, Web Development and Design Processes, Digital Strategy and Platform Management.
- Exposure to online Marketing/Email platforms.
- Familiarity using Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to explain highly technical concepts and processes clearly to non-technical clients.

- Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and/or projects simultaneously and flag when deadlines cannot be met without prioritization.
