The National Geographic Society’s Marketing & Engagement (M&E) team works to raise the profile of the Society’s overall purpose and mission. The Manager of Marketing & Engagement is a critical component of the team’s success, supporting the development and execution of integrated M&E strategies across key areas of impact to drive outcomes and help achieve the organization’s programmatic and enterprise-wide goals in support of its overarching ambition, a planet in balance.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Strategy Support: Partner with designated client groups and Director, Marketing & Engagement to support the development of integrated, proactive end-to-end marketing and engagement strategies to advance the National Geographic Society. Help broaden awareness of programs/priorities, increase visibility among key stakeholder audiences, support achievement of programmatic/enterprise-wide goals and maximize organizational impact. (25%)
- Outreach and Engagement: Develop and implement relevant M&E tactics in support of these strategies, including positioning/messaging, communications/media relations, marketing, outreach/speaking engagements, social/digital, CRM/email marketing, partnerships, sponsorships, events, creative, fundraising materials, etc., as applicable. Manage operational calendars and help to create templates and toolkits to support programmatic outcomes. (35%)
- Media Relations: Manage media relations across these strategies and provide communications counsel for select client groups as assigned by the Director, Marketing & Engagement. (25%)
- Content Curation and Development: Work with appropriate members of the NGS Creative team, programmatic partners and potentially contractors/agency support to create content for NGS social media and blog platforms. (15%)
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related subjects.
Skills/Experience:
- 5+ years of public relations, communications, outreach, marketing or similar experience.
- Excellent understanding of the changing media landscape, including the latest tools/trends
- Ability to work with a variety of constituents ranging from scientists, engineers and explorers to storytellers (photographers/journalists)
- Capacity to work with minimal daily supervision and the ability to exercise strong independent judgment while being the consummate team player
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Stellar writing, editing and presentation skills
- Proficiency in basic office technologies and web-based communication and outreach tools
