Manager, Marketing Compliance

Manages and reviews member-facing marketing and other materials provided by providers for products and services made available to the AARP membership and the general public to ensure compliance with brand guidelines and contractual requirements, products which include health and financial, travel, caregiving, technology, entertainment, and other types of discounts and range from complex, such as Medicare supplement insurance, to simple retail discounts.  Leads extensive interface with marketing and program managers for products, services, and offerings, as well as providers’ counsel, as necessary.  Keeps abreast of industry developments related to marketing, advertising, privacy, intellectual property (IP), social media, digital, and regulations that could impact AARP and ASI. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Protects the equity of AARP’s highly valued and recognized IP (name, logo, and member data) and its reputation and credibility and leads the compliance function.
  • Ensures providers’ member communications accurately and truthfully represent the products and services being offered and comply with AARP brand guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Mitigates legal risk to AARP’s and ASI’s assets.
  • Reviews, provides clearance to, and coordinates enterprise-wide review for marketing and other materials related to the numerous products, services, and offerings made available to AARP members via various marketing and media channels.
  • Provides guidance to marketing and program management on issues that arise related to providers’ marketing materials. Performs research as necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, including tax, IP, privacy and registrations, such as sweepstakes and contest.
  • Ensures best practices are applied in an efficient and effective manner.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of relevant marketing/advertising compliance experience in and knowledge of complex marketing/advertising compliance review.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively build and sustain relationships and work in a matrix environment.
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, diverse, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate colleagues.
