Manager, Live Events Production

Technical Lead responsible for the successful audiovisual production of live events in campus theaters and other spaces. Plans and coordinates technical production requirements with internal/external customers and NGS management. Identifies support needs based on the complexity of production requests, and coordinates with management to ensure proper event support, drawing upon both internal staff as well as temps/contractors when required. Develops event production support plans, identifies production responsibilities and coordinates tasks for junior technicians. Participates in hands-on work including house lighting and microphone/sound control, camera operation and switching, broadcasting over video and Internet, and recording of events for distribution to customers.

Additional responsibilities include oversight of theater facilities, as well as lifecycle management of all technical systems contained within. As pertains to these facilities, this role will lead technical support activities conducted by junior technicians and will take ownership of escalated support tickets when necessary. Additionally, the position will participate in on-call and other shift rotations during non-business hours.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Live event production including planning/collaboration with customers and internal staff, resource planning and acquisition and technical design, as well as leading event preparation, production, and recording/distribution.(60%)
  • Theater management including coordination with event booking staff, building general services, and other colleagues; lifecycle management of all technical equipment installed in theater facilities including asset management, maintenance contracts and vendor relations, and identifying/testing/recommending new production technologies to enhance the audience experience. (20%)
  • Creates documentation, knowledge articles, and performs training/mentoring activities to assist junior colleagues. (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (10%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual/Broadcast Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years experience managing live event productions and other special events and hands-on audio and video engineering as well as theater production.
  • In-depth knowledge of live audiovisual event production (lighting, audio and video) in fixed theater facilities as well as open/public spaces, including experience with webcasting (TriCaster or equivalent).
  • Ability to function in a dynamic environment subject to changes in schedules and priorities. Ability to participate in multiple projects concurrently from inception to completion with limited management supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact positively and productively with teams across organizational lines. Strong customer service, troubleshooting and problem solving a must.
