Within DIAL, the Insights and Impact focus area delivers research, practical knowledge and advocacy to advance a more inclusive digital society. The team uses a variety of delivery formats so that governments, technology companies, and the development community can enhance their ability to deploy digital services to more people and better use data for development purposes. DIAL also convenes relevant groups to encourage collaborative adoption of emerging policies, practices and investment.

We seek an experienced researcher and strategist who is passionate about digital development and who wants to help solve some of the biggest issues facing the sector. The individual selected for the role will help shape and deliver DIAL’s analytical products, lead research projects and communicate them with a range of global stakeholders.

Reporting the Senior Director, Insights & Impact, this role is ideal for an experienced candidate passionate about digital development who wants to help solve some of the biggest issues facing the sector.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and deliver specific research projects from conceptualization to completion.
  • Collaborate with other programmatic teams at DIAL (Data for Development and Platforms & Services) to produce joint knowledge products and research lines.
  • Shape dissemination strategies for completed projects including target audiences, partners and dissemination channels.
  • Create micro content in the form of blog posts, social media and presentations.
  • Attend and participate in conferences that disseminate DIAL’s content.
  • Manage external vendors (e.g. management consulting firms) supporting DIAL’s research efforts, including vendor selection, contract pricing, quality assurance and regular reporting.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to understand emerging trends and topics of interest in the use of technology for development.
  • Contribute to the development of the Insight & Impact team’s research agenda.
  • Develop relationships with key actors including potential research partners.
  • Support other initiatives within the Insights & Impact team and general priorities for DIAL.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated excellence for producing intellectual capital and driving thought leadership in technology and emerging markets, either in a development or private sector setting.
  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant professional experience, with engagements across the public, private and nonprofit sectors.
  • Relevant experience designing, delivering and managing research projects, including in coordination with external vendors.
  • Strategic thinker who enjoys being a thought partner and collaborator on new ventures.
  • Excellent writing skills and innovative approaches to communicate technically complex materials.
  • Detail-oriented and results-driven.
  • Sense of humor.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
  • Master’s degree or higher in relevant field such as engineering, computer science, international development, business, economics or related subject.

This is a unique full-time direct-hire opportunity to work at the cutting edge of technology and international development. Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to commit to, and enthusiasm for, traveling internationally in developing countries up to 15% of the time.
