Positions AARP as a global thought leader understanding and engaging the longevity.  Develops and executes the enterprise-wide strategic direction for international engagement, including programmatic, policy, and operational activities.  Serves as a principal investigator for AARP research on the longevity economy, and when necessary, speaking with external partners and collaborators about AARP’s objectives.  Advises senior leadership on economic matters that could affect the reputation of AARP as a global thought leader.  Negotiates for resource commitments and collaborates with diverse stakeholders to meet organizational objectives.  Serves a critical role in advancing AARP’s leadership in understanding the size, scope, and wide-reaching influence of the 50+ market.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Calculates the direct, indirect, and induced impacts of market drivers related to the 50+ demographic.
  • Engages partners in the public and private sectors with an interest in relationships that drive positive social impact related to the 50+ market.
  • Positions AARP on the global stage as the leading authority on the longevity economy.
  • Manages the wide ecosystem of ongoing projects and platforms that highlight past research and partnerships investigating the longevity economy.
  • Links PRI’s work on the longevity economy to ongoing work in thought leadership and international, with coordinating responsibilities that may span all three groups.
  • Oversees an ongoing body of research into the direct, indirect, and induced impact of good and services linked to the longevity economy.
  • Designs, develops, and executes innovative national/international strategies to enhance AARP’s visibility, image, and standing as a leader in understanding the longevity economy.
  • Cultivates and manages strategic relationships with intergovernmental organizations, embassies, think tanks, non-profits, business, and international agencies of the United States government.
  • Develops and manages projects and activities for AARP’s thought leadership and international work on related economic issues.
  • Serves as lead with public and private partners, working collaboratively to explore and understand this market segment.
  • Brings together targeted organizations and individuals to build strategic partnerships on the longevity economy.
  • Represents AARP at external venues -- international meetings and conferences -- and speaks on behalf of AARP.
  • Identifies global policies and models for application in the United States.
  • Responds to external and internal inquiries utilizing substantive knowledge of national and global trends in the longevity economy.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Business, Mathematics, Political Science, or a related field (advanced degree -- MBA, MPA, JD, or PhD. preferred)
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of related training and relevant experience. 
  • Both a pragmatic thinker and innovator who can effectively drive high-impact insights within a team of subject matter experts and focus the activities of the team on a central, shared vision.
  • A strong team player who can connect authentically with colleagues and peers.
  • Comfortable with complexity and the changing nature of a high-level role in a fast moving department.
  • Fluent in the use of data and metrics to explain current trends global economics, with an emphasis of understanding on how market segments and demographics can influence macro-trends. 
  • Experience managing long-term projects that require meticulous project management or other service-related support and resources.
  • Strong understanding of national and international economic trends and drivers.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience and familiarity with international policy and the global marketplace as it relates to aging.  Fluency with issues of aging (retirement policies, pensions, health care) desired.
  • High-level qualitative and quantitative skills and the ability to communicate complex data and findings.
  • Experience developing and implementing long range, cross-enterprise programs is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, to prepare concise quantitative and qualitative summaries, and to draft recommendations on key issues.
  • Self­-awareness, emotional maturity, and a demonstrated ability to connect authentically with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written presentation skills, with the ability to convey the most important points simply and visually.  Familiarity with emerging tools for data visualization strongly desired.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to AARP's organizational culture.
