Junior Consultant, Human Rights of Transgender People

The objectives of the consultancy are to:

  • Support for the implementation of the OHCHR-led UN Free & Equal campaign, specifically on the human rights of transgender people;
  • Draft scripts and copy for a mini-campaign for Trans Visibility Day 2019, a short video for Trans Day of Remembrance 2019, as well as various other digital campaign output on the human rights of trans people, and
  • As required, provide additional research and other strategic advice and support to OHCHR on issues relating to the promotion and protection of the rights of trans people.

The consultant will be contracted by the UN Foundation on a part-time basis to support the OHCHR-led UN Free & Equal campaign. All the creative work would be developed in close collaboration with the OHCHR LGBTI team.The work will be carried out under the supervision of the Campaign Manager and OHCHR team leader on the rights of LGBTI people, in collaboration with other staff members of the team working on the rights of LGBTI people, and other relevant OHCHR colleagues, as appropriate.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Deliverables and Outputs: 

  • A mini-campaign for trans day of visibility to be launched in March 2019, hereunder a draft a script for a 45-60 second video, copy for a landing page for the campaign website, as well as copy for 2 macros that will be a part of the campaign. 
  • The script for a 20 second video for trans day of remembrance 2019, and
  • 10 other trans specific macros and GIFs.
  • In addition, the consultant will provide additional research and other strategic advice and support to OHCHR’s work on the rights of transgender people as needed. 

All the creative work would be developed in close collaboration with the OHCHR LGBTI team.

The consultant’s performance shall be rated with reference to the following criteria:

  • The quality of the written output.
  • Timely response and production of drafts, inputs.
  • Incorporation of comments received on drafts.
  • Effective coordination and liaison with OHCHR.
Educational Background: 
Advanced degree in social science, law, communications or related subject.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in copy writing related to the human rights of transgender people for social media campaigns.
  • Experience in working with UN public information campaigns.
  • Fluency in English.
Compensation/Benefits: 

USD 1,500 per month over 3.5 months, to cover all deliverables.
