As a member of the Talent Acquisition (TA) team, this position inspires the most talented college/university students and recent graduates to launch their career at AARP by driving innovative TA strategies and programs.  The Intern Program Manager focuses on the development, implementation and evaluation of college/university relations strategies, programs, technology and solutions.  The Intern Program Manager will also drive the full life cycle recruitment for college hires and intern positions. This position partners with the rest of the TA function, HR organization, AARP business leadership, as well as external partners to meet the organization’s talent needs now and into the future. 

Areas of Responsibility: 

Intern Program Management:

  • Ensure the smooth implementation of a structured internship program that meets the needs of the business and is attractive to college students. Facilitate training for hiring managers; design a leadership speaker series that educates and engages student in the work that we do and prepares them for a career; and identify social networking opportunities for interns and stakeholders to connect and establish rapport.
  • Identify colleges and universities that will best meet AARP’s needs for the future, and evaluate existing relationships for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identify channels to market to “non-traditional” students to grow diversity into the intern program.
  • Organize and staff on-campus recruiting efforts (e.g., career fairs and interviews); participate in presentations, info sessions and career fairs on college and university campuses; engage with career development offices and students to raise awareness of AARP’s employer value proposition.
  • Maintain strong relationships with college career services, key faculty, administrators, and student groups.
  • Develop and monitor key metrics and costs related to the college recruiting function.  Design and develop leadership presentation that communicate the successes and opportunities of the program.

Recruitment Process:

  • Perform full life-cycle recruitment, including owning internal client consultation, partnering with hiring managers to determine the best strategy for meeting the needs of an individual search, developing creative and diverse sourcing strategies, generating a candidate pipeline, qualifying and presenting a candidate slate to clients, managing the client and candidate throughout the process, and ensuring that all interview logistics are seamless, and facilitating a positive onboarding experience.
  • Execute on full life cycle recruiting techniques including but not limited to candidate sourcing, phone screening, behavioral based interviewing, client interview preparation and scheduling, hiring team consensus feedback collection, initiating pre-hire check, and candidate closing in response to current openings.
  • Deliver consistent execution by managing open position requisition activity including system input and maintenance, job board postings, continued tracking and monitoring of status, and monitoring applicant tracking activities to assure compliance with recruiting process. 
  • Recruit in compliance with policies as defined by AARP, as well as State and Federal Laws.  Adhere to selection standards and recommend improvements and innovations to process and procedures.   Maintain accurate, updated and compliant information in applicant tracking system and candidate files.  Maintain company, client, and candidate confidentiality. 
  • Execute against timelines, benchmarks and metrics.
  • Develop well written, researched and marketable position descriptions and subsequently post to appropriate media.
  • Ensure a positive candidate experience by providing timely feedback and status updates, guiding candidates through the process, and delivering a positive onboarding experience.
  • Collaborate with the HR Business Partners as well as client departments in forecasting intern needs.  Exceed client expectations by providing a strong service orientation, outstanding decision making, and efficiency in delivering quality results.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS degree Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.  HR certifications (SPHR/PHR certification) a plus.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Preferred experience of 5 years in recruitment with at least 1 year leading a college recruiting program.
  • Experience building and utilizing a variety of sourcing plans, college recruiting tools and technology enablers.
  • Consultative disposition with the ability to assess the landscape, understand the sense of urgency, pushback where required, convince and persuade, and execute realizing the value of providing amazing, sophisticated customer service.
  • Extensive ATS/CRM experience with sourcing, tracking and managing candidates a must; PeopleSoft experience a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.  Proven ability to consistently and positively contribute in a high-paced, changing work environment with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple searches, projects and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills, including experience in using CRM technology, social media applications and channels, as well as the MS Office Suite - including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook – to support and create messaging.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local regulations governing employment practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with hiring managers in all departments, HR business partners, and at all levels of the organization and serve as an ambassador to AARP for all candidates.
  • Motivated, results-driven and ability to work independently as well as within teams.
  • Possess a high level of integrity and confidentiality. Must demonstrate good judgment at all times.
  • Experience with behavioral interview processes and candidate evaluations a plus.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
