AARP Innovation Labs, as part of the Enterprise Innovation team is in pursuit of a high energy, detail oriented, execution focused person that is passionate about innovation and uncovering new solutions to epidemic problems. As part of this position, this individual will be responsible for supporting innovation events, engagements and initiatives and serving as a valuable member of a growing and impactful team.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Planning & Program Support

  • Supports projects that are highly important to the success of AARP Innovation Labs
  • Support tools and processes that work across all AARP Innovation Labs programming
  • Support the Director, Innovation Labs Program Management with internal and external communication across the Programs and to other important partners/stakeholders
  • Present ideas for programmatic projects that might facilitate AARP’s objectives
  • Work with appropriate stakeholders, including outside partners, to execute planned engagements and initiatives.
  • Effectively support AARP Innovation Labs relationships with startups, accelerators and partners and provide strategy input. This includes supporting the planning of events like Demo Days, regional pitch competitions, conferences engagement and Innovation Expose’s.

Event Space Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for event and meeting bookings in the Hatchery
  • Monitor Hatchery event supplies and order as needed and monitor space maintenance and service needs
  • Assist with the development of a quarterly innovation event strategy to engage the external innovation community
  • Assist in the development of the annual program and event plan and budget for AARP Innovation Labs
  • Assist with coordinating the program-wide goals setting process each year, supporting milestones, and communicate across the company
  • Proactive identification of conference and event engagement opportunities for startups, staff and partners

Financial and Budgetary Responsibilities

  • This position will not have any direct financial responsibilities.

Complexity

  • This position will require the ability to manage the day to-day day operations of the Hatchery. This individual must possess a great deal of autonomy in managing day-to-day plans and executing on those plans.  Individual must also be comfortable and have experience with superb customer service and vendor management.
  • This individual’s responsibilities include driving best practices on innovation to support innovation teams and startups affiliated with AARP Innovation Labs.  This individual will need to operate with limited oversight to provide clear, support and management to internal and external stakeholders to reach AARP Innovation Labs goals and objectives. Strong leadership, decision-making, innovation knowledge, communication, and executional skills are required for this position.
Educational Background: 
Bacheor's degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • One or more years account management experience in the field of event planning, entrepreneurship, technology, PR, or advertising
  • Strong understanding of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Washington DC and surrounding areas
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication, and customer relationship-building skills across multiple levels of management.
  • Goal-oriented, ambitious, self-starter, detail-oriented and passionate
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce or a similar CRM platform
  • Experience with resource and vendor management preferred
  • Event and partner management skills a plus
