Information Security Intern (Year-Round, Undergrad)

Are you interested in applying your academic learnings to develop your professional IT skills? Join AARP as a calendar-year intern with its dynamic team of ITS leaders who are responsible for protecting the confidentiality, data and integrity of AARP’s computer systems.  As a calendar or year-round intern, you will work closely with the Director of Information Security and his team on various projects like, data encryption, dynamic scan and web application firewalls. This is an undergraduate position for a junior or senior with a passion and drive for security protection and strong collaborative and proactive skills.

Areas of Responsibility: 

AARP Information Security intern will work closely with Sr. Security Advisors on various projects to protect member and constituent information.  Duties of the interns will include and are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the team as they manage AARP vendors to perform vulnerability management scans of various platforms including, Windows, UNIX, and networking devices;
  • Properly document the safe removal of any malware found on AARP hosts; 
  • Assist in performing security audits, risk analysis, network forensics and penetration testing;
  •  Intern is accountable for updating monthly security metrics that are provided to the Strategic Leadership Team and the AARP Board members. 
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience: 
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 
  • Our successful candidate will join a highly engaged team of professionals and will be expected to work collaboratively, proactively and possess a thirst for knowledge and learning. Certification or pursuing certification in the following:  Certified Information Security Specialist (CISSP), Technology Tools & Practices (TTP) is highly desirable. Experience in Excel and other data reporting software also very helpful.
