General Services Assistant

Performs general office and administrative services support duties including but not limited to mail, package, and material deliveries, mail sorting, receiving, shipping, conference room set-ups, and other duties assigned by the Services Supervisor at NPR facilities in Washington, DC.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Logistics and Delivery Services

  • Processing, packaging and routing of incoming and outgoing US mail, FedEx, UPS, courier and inter-office letters and parcels.
  • Updating manual and electronic receiving and shipment records including proof of delivery validation.
  • Receives and routes facsimile communications.
  • Receives, inspects, and routes shipments. Maintains records (manual and electronic) of all shipments received
  • Receives and arranges delivery of courier hand deliveries.

Offices Services Support

  • Conference room and special event furniture and equipment set-up, breakdown and cleanup.
  • Assists the with corporate reproduction services, and stocking copier and printer locations throughout the facility.
  • Assists in records storage and retrieval.
  • Maintenance and stocking of coffee stations and pantries.
  • Staff moves; including moving of boxes, furniture and equipment as directed.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with relevant procedures and policies.
  • Other related duties, which may be assigned from time to time.
Educational Background: 
High school graduate.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Knowledge of US Postal regulations, bulk mailings and business replies procedures.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record sufficient to meet the qualifications for coverage of NPR’s insurance carrier.
  • At least one year of experience in a large organization’s mailroom or Office Services.
  • A courteous and have a pleasant manner interacting with personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • Willingness to work overtime and shift schedules that including evenings and weekends.
  • Service/task oriented, with the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.

Tools and Equipment Used In This Position

  • Incumbent must be familiar with and will be required to use a personal computer, mailing equipment, hand trucks, fax machines, photocopy machine, and telephone and company motor vehicles.

  • Must be able to bend, reach or stoop, and be able to lift 70 pounds.
