Works with an integrated communications team to amplify the compelling research, policy solutions, insights, and global thought leadership produced by AARP’s Policy, Research, and International (PRI) group. Works with this team and colleagues across PRI to support the strategic design, planning, and production of outstanding innovative and inspiring experiences, events, and other convenings for internal and external audiences.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Collaborates to conceptualize, develop, and implement exciting, often highly visible, forward-looking events and convenings, ranging in size from intimate dinners to large-scale, multi-day events, including partnering with colleagues to identify speakers, develop invitation lists, and prepare speakers.
- Attends and researches external convenings to bring back new and innovative ideas for event and convening formats.
- Builds and manages positive working relationships with colleagues enterprise-wide.
- Identifies venues, researches and visit potential meeting sites, and reviews proposals.
- Handles all services related to events, including food and beverage, transportation, lodging, and audio-visual and space set-up.
- Handles contracts with vendors and works with internal units to coordinate related support for events and convenings.
- Ensures all event materials and collateral are produced and are high quality, aligned with strategic goals and meeting brand standards.
- Develops and manages event budgets.
- Stays on top of best practices and innovations.
- Collaborates with appropriate management to support outreach activities, including researching new and innovative partnerships, collaborations, and conferences.
Educational Background:
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3+ years of job-related experience.
Skills/Experience:
- Demonstrated experience managing all aspects of engagements of various sizes and formats.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across groups to produce high quality and impactful events and convenings.
- Proven ability to manage and work effectively in a collaborative environment, including building positive, strategic, and solid partnerships with colleagues throughout AARP and its affiliates, as well as external partners.
- Ability to think creatively and deliberately, as well as able to develop plans, timetables, and meet deliverables.
- Demonstrates excellent judgement and creative problem solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, to prepare concise summaries, and to provide sound recommendations on high visibility issues.
