Content Strategy Intern, NPR Training Team-Winter/Spring 2019

This job is no longer available

Washington, DC, USA
Full-time

The NPR Training team supports high-quality journalism and storytelling at NPR and member stations. Public media journalists are busier than ever — and their jobs keep evolving. In this environment, it can be difficult to hone storytelling techniques, learn new tools, and find the space and guidance to experiment. The NPR Training Team exists to make all of that happen.

The team is multiplatform and offers training in audio and digital storytelling, audio production, social media, diversity, editing and more. Our training takes many forms: in-person workshops, webinars, visits to NPR member stations and industry conferences.

Areas of Responsibility:

The NPR Training site (npr.org/training) is a cornerstone of our work. The site is an open and growing resource that has found new audiences outside of public media, including journalism students and educators, other news organizations and nonprofits. To date, we’ve published more than 175 guides, case studies and more.

As our inventory grows, so does our need for a sharp content strategy — and we want you to help us develop it. In addition to working on our publishing calendar and social media strategy, we will ask you to grapple with questions like: How might we reach our online and in-person audiences differently with the same material? How might we repurpose existing material in new ways?

On an average day, your work might include producing a new site post in our CMS, managing an audience callout and optimizing an existing training guide to grow search referrals. You may also be asked to help with other Training team projects, including events, conference planning and more. You will be expected to operate under deadline.
