Community Strategist - Social Media

AARP is hiring a Social Strategist who will be responsible for overseeing the execution and implementation of AARP’s social content strategy. Under the guidance of the Director of Social, they will assist with the development of AARP’s social content strategy and work with the Social Marketing Senior Advisor to ensure maximum exposure for content on paid platforms. The Social Strategist with the assistance of Social Media Coordinator will manage all social content projects from receipt of brief all the way through to execution.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Maintaining the AARP brand on established and emerging social platforms
  • Developing social communication that resonates with the target audience and creates impact amongst that audience
  • Helping to grow membership and in so doing grow revenue for AARP
  • Ensuring the most effective and efficient use of social communication budgets
  • Reporting the health and evolution of AARP communities on a monthly and quarterly basis to the Director of Social
  • Staying current on industry trends and technological developments all while applying the best thinking and practices to AARP’s social communication
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree, (advanced degree preferred) in marketing communications or a related discipline
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years of experience in developing social communications strategies for a variety of clients at an agency or large, complex organization
  • Previous social media management experience is required including community management and paid media management

Requirements include:

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to develop and manage social content strategy
  • Demonstrate an ability to use data, analytics and audience metrics to direct and measure social communication
  • Possess strong client service orientation and account management skills
  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of, and ability to work within, organizational politics, networks, and a matrix management system
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills (e.g. listening, negotiating, facilitating, managing conflict, flexibility.)
  • Demonstrate strong working knowledge and understanding of social communications platforms, blogs, microblogs, mobile, user-generated sites, etc
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy – strong attention to detail
