Campaign Representative, A Living Economy

Context:  Develops and deploys the program’s campaign strategies, in collaboration with Living Economy and other staff, in order to halt unjust trade deals and advance Green New Deal policies that tackle climate change and toxic pollution, create good jobs, and fight racial, economic, and gender inequity.

Scope: Helps drive the development and execution of the Living Economy program’s grassroots campaign strategies, in coordination with Living Economy, Organizing, Communications, Federal Policy, and other Sierra Club staff. In coordination with Sierra Club chapters, campaigns, capacities, and committees, helps craft materials and tools to educate supporters, cultivate volunteer leaders, and invite increased activism. Works with the program’s director to cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with environmental, labor, immigration, racial justice, and other movement groups. Represents the program to other organizations, the public, government officials, and the media, in coordination with program staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Oversees the development and implementation of campaign strategies to build grassroots power for Green New Deal policies and against corporate trade deals, by working with Sierra Club chapters and volunteers, soliciting and introducing creative ideas, and identifying key opportunities.
  • Helps to manage and build broad coalitions of ally organizations dedicated to advancing a Green New Deal and halting unjust trade deals, in coordination with Living Economy staff, and co-leads the coordination of coalitions’ grassroots efforts.
  • Cultivates, coordinates, and supports trade and Green New Deal action among Sierra Club’s national volunteer membership and leadership.
  • Supports and provides professional expertise, training, and motivation on trade and Green New Deal to staff, volunteers, activists, and coalition partners.
  • Leads the planning and facilitation of trainings, conventions, workshops, and other events.
  • Drives the production of educational, advocacy, and activist material on trade and a Green New Deal, in coordination with Living Economy staff.
  • Represents the Sierra Club to the general public, the media, and to strategic allies and coalitions, in coordination with program staff.
  • Assists with research projects, media initiatives, fundraising efforts, and miscellaneous duties as needed.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the planning and implementation of campaigns, which includes:
  • planning and managing a state, regional, or national level campaign;
  • volunteer leadership development;
  • partnership and coalition development; and
  • creation of activist materials.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in developing volunteer capacity, building broad and inclusive movement coalitions, and event planning.
  • Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills required. Demonstrated public speaking and media presentation ability preferred.
  • Familiarity with trade agreements and Green New Deal goals and policy ideas preferred. Commitment to equity and the goals of a Green New Deal and trade policy transformation is essential.
  • Familiarity with, and openness to, different approaches to grassroots organizing and policy work.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, take responsibility for a project, work successfully in teams, and work in a challenging political landscape.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines in an action-oriented office.
  • Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record.
  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency required. Proficiency in databases preferred.
