Amnesty International (AI) is a Nobel Peace Prize-winning human rights movement of more than 7 million supporters, activists and volunteers in more than 150 countries campaigning for human rights worldwide. We are seeking a passionate, creative and results-driven individual to join our campaign team and take on the ambitious goal of winning human rights victories in these turbulent times. This Campaign Manager will be responsible for delivering bold, visionary and winning campaigns, including campaigns on the global refugee crisis.
The Campaign Manager will lead teams to deliver campaign projects that advance Amnesty International’s human rights and organizational objectives. By campaign, we mean strategically planned and timebound projects to advance human rights--sometimes in response to a specific external event or opportunity. Our campaigns involve a high concentration of resources over a limited period.
- Anticipate opportunities to develop winning and innovative human rights campaigns that leverage our toolbox: Grassroots activism; digital engagement and social media; research and reports; high-level political advocacy in Washington and internationally; press visibility and influence; global grassroots power; and global credibility;
- Deftly manage project teams involving staff, member leaders and volunteers--in a high-intensity environment
- Develop a campaign that leverages traditional media and digital tools to win real human rights impact while growing our grassroots membership;
- Develop plans to test innovative strategies and tactics;
- Foster and develop relationships with relevant international, national, and local coalition partners with the aim of identifying opportunities to collaborate, leverage AIUSA’s resources, and amplify campaigns with common goals and objectives;
- Serve as a public and media spokesperson on Amnesty International’s priority campaigns;
- Work collaboratively with Amnesty International members and volunteers in achieving campaign goals;
- Coordinate work with counterparts at Amnesty International’s Secretariat (IS) and in other Amnesty sections, ensuring that AIUSA and global AI movement strategies are aligned
- Develops training and educational materials and assists in training youth groups, local member groups, member leaders, and external stakeholders on human rights principles, messaging, and grassroots organizing.
- Plan and implement strategies on other projects in the Campaigns Unit as assigned by the Senior Director of Campaigns;
- Use data-driven strategies to assess campaign performance and share results with relevant stakeholder. Independently ensure the implementation of projects and campaigns through communication with the Senior Director;
- May supervise interns and/or staff.
- At least 7 years of experience planning and winning strategic campaigns on human rights or social justice issues; experience with refugee and/or migrants' rights preferred
- Experience in managing teams to achieve social justice/human rights impact; experience working with members or volunteers strongly preferred
- Demonstrated success as a lead strategist on how to leverage grassroots membership, research, high-level political advocacy, media and digital resources to win campaigns
- Demonstrated understanding of digital tools including email, SMS, social media, and data analytics to achieve campaign victories and bring in new members is strongly preferred
- Experience operating within a complex, high-intensity organization and fast-paced environment is a major plus
- Experience working in coalitions, leading/working with organizers and activists, and working in diverse communities required
- Experience as a spokesperson with media and the public
- Experience campaigning on social justice issues required; experience with international human rights issues strongly preferred
- Strong track record working with advocacy-oriented research and analysis
