Provides engineering solutions and technical support to Public Radio Satellite System.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Implements and executes on broadcast and network integration involving Public Radio Satellite System facilities.
- Defines and executes the scope of project. Researches and evaluates possible solutions, and prepares recommendations, specifications and identification of prospective vendors
- Coordinates the planning and execution of approved maintenance, system deployments, including specifications at component level.
- Recommends maintenance procedures for the various broadcast systems.
- Prepares documentation packages including drawings, parts lists, network design and system pricing, integration and acceptance.
- Will articulate technical information verbally and writing.
- Provides technical assistance in resolving technical problems.
- Provides technical hands-on support and coordinates field-support service for stations with extraordinary earth station problems as assigned. Limited remote field or site work may be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
College degree or equivalent experience with emphasis on technical and engineering subjects including IT networking.
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a hands-on operations and maintenance position involving broadcast, satellite transmit & receive equipment and IP networking experience.
- RF uplink and downlink experience. Experience with single-carrier-per-channel (SCPC) satellite systems, both analog and digital and multiple-carriers-per-channel (MCPC) systems including the ability to perform transponder loading and path link budget analysis is required.
- Additional experience in TCP/IP networking, UDP multicasting and routing, additional TCP/IP protocols, Cisco CLI, packet sniffing, protocol, transport stream analysis, SSH and Telnet clients, spectrum analyzers, computer troubleshooting and repair to the component level is required. CCNA Cisco certification desired.
- Three years’ experience managing technical projects.
- Computer experience: Microsoft Office Suite to include including Visio for design drawings. CAD experience will qualify.
- Ability to read and understand schematic, systems, block and signal flow diagrams. Ability to troubleshoot and repair to system, sub-system and component level may be required.
- Data Center integration experience
- AoIP Audio network experience, Axia
- Limited time work irregular hours during scheduled maintenance, emergencies and on-call as needed.
- Hands-on experience with the system level design, installation and operation of medium and high power transmitters, DVB modulators, multiprotocol encapsulators (MPE), AoIP audio systems, monitor & control systems and network management systems.
- This position requires that employee be located at the PRSS Headquarters building (1111 N. Capitol St, NE, Washington DC, 20002). Location/locality statement: Ability to be on-site at the PRSS Headquarters building (1111 N. Capitol St, NE, Washington DC, 20002) within 2 hours as required unless specifically approved by the Director of Engineering.
- Ability to use power and hand tools for design, fabrication and installation of broadcast and support systems. Knowledge and ability to safely operate tools such as drill press, hand drills, saws, sanders, grinders, chop saw, soldering, de-soldering, and PCB rework.
- Assignments may include working outside in inclement weather. Many assignments will work to deadlines, requiring occasional work outside traditional office hours and weekend work.
