This position provides timely and accurate support and information to ensure benefits offerings are correctly positioned from a competitive, cost, and compliance standpoint.  Assist in the evaluation and analysis of all benefits related areas. Responsible for the day-to-day administration and recommendations of employee health and welfare, pension, and other employee benefits and wellness programs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides expert and accurate advice to employees on issues relating to employee benefits.
  • Administers various employee benefit programs, to include, but not limited to, group insurance, life, medical, dental, accident and disability, pensions, investments, and savings.
  • Enrolls new employees in benefit plans and assists employees in calculating cost of optional coverage; assists employees with issues on claims.
  • Processes status changes in a timely and accurate manner; performs data entry of benefit and retirement information; assembles various benefits packages; conducts the clearance process for employees separating their employment.
  • Conducts benefit orientations presenting an overview of new and existing plan information during new employee orientations and annual enrollment.
  • Prepares and sets up meetings designed to help employees obtain information and understand benefits, and other related incentive programs.
  • Creates and revises existing benefits forms, letters, and policies.
  • Coordinates, creates or leads benefit related seminars such as retirement, convocation, and health fairs.
  • Processes and reconciles monthly benefits related invoices.
  • Works with the Manager, Benefits to design Wellness Programs, and may serve as the lead person in coordinating and executing events.
  • Assists Manager with all benefit related projects including open enrollment, implementation and plan changes, etc.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of benefits related policies and procedures.
  • Continually recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency of the unit, department, and services provided. Identifies the need for, and performs special studies of segments of the benefits program; evaluates coverage effectiveness; recommends changes in existing programs and/or new initiatives based on competitive analysis of benefits program.
  • Monitors changes in laws and regulations related to benefits to ensure plan compliance and provides modification recommendations to policies and process as deemed necessary; participates in developing unit goals, objectives and systems; conducts surveys and research to determine best practices.
  • Assists with audits to ensure accuracy of data in reports and data transmissions to third party vendors; collaborates with systems counterparts for assessment and correction of discrepancies.
  • Serves as a liaison with benefit vendors on various issues and analyzes and evaluates vendor performance; initiates investigations into discrepancies; and provides vendors appropriate documentation as needed.
  • Develops and adheres to timelines to ensure timely and accurate completion of key tasks and deliverables.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least 3 +years of position-related experience. 
  • Working level knowledge of health and welfare program administration is critical. 
  • Key competencies: Communication, Customer Focus, Project Execution, and Planning & Organizing.
