The Benefits Specialist reports to the Benefits Senior Manager to support NPR’s benefits policies and programs including implementation, administration and compliance.
- Reconciliation, payment and timely processing of all benefit invoices
- Planning and performing the day-to-day administration of all health and welfare plans including health, dental, vision, flexible spending account, short and long term disability benefits, worker’s compensation, life insurance, ADD and Voluntary benefit plans.
- Updating the benefits self-service portal and the intranet and processing all payroll adjustments
- Resolving routine and complex benefits questions and issues while providing excellent customer service within 24 hours to all internal clients.
- Leads benefits education sessions, federal and state leave management and annual open enrollment.
- Manages all leave of absence activity including FML and disability; providing leave information and answering questions in a thorough and timely manner; resolves escalations.
- Serve as back-up for benefits orientation, answers benefits questions, manages vendors and serves as a resource for all things benefits related
- Provides assistance with Wellness Initiatives
- Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- A minimum of 3 - 5 years of related experience, including strong working knowledge and hands on experience with benefits & FMLA/Disability administration
- Knowledge of all pertinent regulations, filing and compliance requirements affecting employee benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, SECTION 125 and DOL requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including intermediate Excel proficiency
- Strong analytical skills for conducting reconciliations and data analysis
- Ability to identify data needs and support process and procedure improvements
- Strong focus on client service and responsiveness
- Ability to assess problems or challenges and determine an effective approach to reach resolution
