The Analyst conducts thorough and careful analyses of internal/external data and trends to deliver insights that assist the Executive Vice President in formulating strategies in support of AARP goals.  Works collegially within the AARP enterprise and outside with both public and private organizations.  Drafts reports, correspondence, talking points, speeches and other outreach pieces reflecting AARP’s position for the EVP.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Analyzes and interprets a broad array of strategic research on AARP member wants and needs, issues, legislation, opinion leaders and legislators, policymakers, public policy, and current events. Produces written reports related to this research.
  • Cultivates a broad knowledge base related to CSN's work including staying current on important research, significant trends, relevant drivers and barriers, external environment factors, appropriate media, public policy developments, and potential new opportunities to promote AARP's messages and programs. 
  • Provides support, advice and manages special projects to support Community, State and National Group (CSN) Executive Vice President and Vice-President. 
  • Drafts and reviews communications from EVP to an array of audiences, including staff of over 700, and outside audiences..
  • Supports EVP’s engagement in social media platforms.
  • Acts as a liaison with CSN Leadership and AARP departments on EVP’s behalf to support and manage special projects.
  • Serves on internal working groups that include matrix management responsibilities. 
  • Attends conferences, events, speeches and other external events on behalf of AARP and develops summary reports of those meetings for EVP while making strategic connections to AARP’s work.
  • Prepares briefs on strategic issues for EVP and CSN leadership. 
  • Demonstrates AARP values in all interactions.
Educational Background: 
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in political science, economics, or a similar field related to the duties of this position; graduate degree in related field a plus
Skills/Experience: 
  • 4 years of experience in a legislative, political, or policy position; or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
  • Strong research and information gathering skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain commitment from others, manage conflict, lead meetings and execute on deliverables.
  • Maintains strong knowledge of AARP. Strong written and oral communication skills are critical as well as attention to detail, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to keep abreast of rapidly-changing environment and communicating those changes appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Consistently demonstrated ability to work well with others at all levels.
