Develop and manage the day to day planning, execution and analysis of direct marketing efforts within Alternative Media channels. These channels include Print Media, Insert Media, Take-one programs, Shared Mail programs, PIPS, RALs, Billing Statements, and Pubs. The person in this position will be testing new non-direct mail channels that could be considered.  Efforts in these channels are focused on and measured against very specific membership goals that support the AARP Dashboard Goals. The position reports into the Director, Alt Media Channel Management. The position is unique in that it requires a significant amount of creativity, as well as strategic planning, execution, and analysis to measure success.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop testing strategies for Alt Media’s general market and diversity campaigns to ensure forecasted membership goals are met. This includes continual strategic planning, execution, monitoring, and testing into the variety of channels/programs.
  • Analyze reporting and campaign performance results in order to make appropriate recommendations and optimizations for achieving Alt Media forecasted goals.
  • Participate in analysis and testing of the Alt Media model.  Understand the complexity of the model enough to provide business requirements to ensure the most efficient selections are made.
  • Coordinate daily with external resources/vendors as well as internal contacts to ensure flawless production/distribution/tracking/reporting/analysis of monthly programs. External vendors include creative agencies, media agency, as well as a variety of program vendors. Internal contacts include others in Membership Development as well as Legal, Technologies, Production, Call Center Operations, Treasury Operations, Mail Operations, our internal Data Services team, and our internal Metrics and Reporting teams.
  • Mange the strategic planning, execution, testing and reporting forAARP The Magazine Membership Development blow-ins. 
  • Work with approved premium vendors to obtain pricing, place orders and track shipments.  Ensure Mail Operations (Lakewood) and Member Services is aware of new premium testing, set up necessary components to fulfill the premiums and ensure inventory tracking is maintained/accurate.
Educational Background: 
College degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • A minimum of four years of related direct response and budget management experience (channel marketing, database marketing, campaign development/maintenance, project management, scheduling); or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
  • Requires a proven track record planning, executing and analyzing large direct marketing campaigns, as well as and working directly with and managing multiple agencies. Will ensure that message development effectively utilizes market research and analysis and is consistent with AARP brand values.
