The operations manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of AARP’s innovative and growing BankSafe initiative (www.aarp.org/banksafe), which works with the financial industry to prevent financial exploitation and protect vulnerable populations. Reporting to the Vice President of Financial Security in AARP Public Policy Institute and working closely with the director of BankSafe, the position provides operations management, communications, and programmatic support for a complex program in a matrix organization.

Responsibilities include ensuring progress on project deliverables, aligning strategic and programmatic plans with established and projected annual budgets, and working with internal and external partners.  

Applicant must have demonstrated superior organizational, project management, and communications skills (written and verbal).

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides day-to-day operations management, communications and programmatic support for the BankSafe initiative.
  • Develops innovative and efficient processes to ensure that operations are within the necessary scope, delivered on time and within the appropriate budgetary allotments.
  • Develops and coordinates multi-faceted work plans to support special projects and initiatives.
  • Manages multiple projects to advance the goals and priorities of BankSafe, including performing project and program analysis.
  • Executes financial tasks, such as contracting, invoice processing, expense reimbursement and grants reporting.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with functional areas throughout AARP (i.e. communications staff, government affairs, AARP Foundation), external partners and key stakeholders.
  • Communicates with BankSafe partners, providing updates on activities and seeking input when deemed appropriate.
  • Works with external partners and related contacts, including but not limited to, participating in and arranging follow-up conference calls, web conferences, meetings and events.
  • Serves as a central point of contact for project communications, data collection and reporting.
  • Monitors and tracks time-sensitive projects and events to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Educational Background: 
Completion of bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience: Master’s degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Proven operations management skills, within a large, highly visible, multi-faceted program
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels and across multiple departments.
  • Advances proficiency in Microsoft Office, Social Media and project management tools.
