Reporting to the Director of Advanced Analytics, the Advanced Analytics Advisor will be a key team member in a world-class data science function.  The position will develop data-driven analytics and strategies aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of member acquisition, retention and communications programs. The role will also drive innovative approaches to using data and technology in support of AARP’s mission.

The Advanced Analytics Advisor will help set the vision, direction and provide thought leadership for state-of-the-art statistical and econometric models, algorithms and logic to improve the effectiveness of programs and the execution of business plans. In this role, the Advanced Analytics Advisor will direct the development of predictive models which may include response, approval, profitability and value, cross-sell, member satisfaction, and retention. Other decision support analysis may include advertising effectiveness, member engagement programs, member and prospect segmentation, executive dashboard metrics and multi-year forecasting.

The Advanced Analytics Advisor plays a primary role in providing thought leadership in the selection and use of analytical tools and techniques at AARP, and must effectively communicate to senior management analytical results and their business implications. This person will be responsible for the overall quality and consistency of analytic results, and for defining and implementing a process to ensure that these results continue to meet the needs of AARP and business partners.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop a vision for the Advanced Analytics function and a roadmap that will allow the group to serve the growing needs of its partners.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the development and execution of customer management solutions, including frameworks for experimental design which utilize appropriate test/control structures to address business needs. 
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques
  • Provide leadership in driving improvements to decision platforms, capabilities and tools. Attend industry conferences to identify new trends and procedures that could be introduced into the existing toolkit.
  • Implement best practices for code repositories, maintenance, and implementation.
  • Provide recommendations and insights to internal clients. Communicate analytical results to non-technical audiences in a clear and concise format. Craft presentations based on specific business partner audiences, providing the appropriate level of detail required to take action.
  • Foster good relationships across the association, corporate partners, and vendors. Maintain relationships with external resources to supplement staff and the AARP knowledge base. Develop relationships with suppliers for supplemental analytical resources.
  • Write code in support of, and in collaboration with, the Advanced Analytics team
  • Generate new and innovative solutions to problems facing the organization, utilizing available data
  • Coordinate between SAS and Databricks Spark environments
Educational Background: 
College degree and at least 5+ years’ analytic experience required. Graduate degree in analytics, economics, statistics, or relevant area preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Experience in the direct/database marketing industry strongly preferred.
  • Highly process oriented, with a desire for continuous improvement of processes and associated documentation of efforts.
  • Excellent business judgment and ability to recognize business implications of data.
  • Strong integrated marketing experience and credentials and strong quantitative analysis skills including familiarity with statistical methods and understanding of trending and forecasting.
  • Demonstrated successful performance in developing and managing all aspects of multi-channel marketing and communication strategies that significantly impact business results.
  • Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches
  • Excellent oral/written presentation skills; proficiency in preparation and presentation of proposals, analytical reports, and documents regarding programs’ operational status, achievement and performance.
  • Ability to work effectively with people, to gain internal respect and build consensus with superiors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Ability to work with large data sets and comfort manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources
  • Strong coding skills in Python and SQL required
  • 2+ years’ experience with statistical programming (e.g. SAS, pandas, R) strongly preferred
  • Experience with SAS preferred
  • Experience in predictive modeling, including regression and classification, and machine learning preferred
