The Administrative Assistant position is among a seven-member team that makes up the Federal Health & Family business unit that is part of the AARP Government Affairs department.  The mission of AARP Government Affairs is to advance AARP’s goals through legislative and regulatory advocacy with policymakers and elected officials at the federal, state and local levels, as well as, judicial advocacy in the courts.  The Federal Health & Family business unit is responsible for all health care related advocacy as it relates to the U.S. Congress and the federal government overall.  The Administrative Assistant is responsible for administrative support to the staff of the Federal Health & Family business unit, and reports to the Director for Federal Health & Family.  

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Duties include typing, filing, answering phones, scheduling, financial record keeping, coordinating meetings and conferences, obtaining supplies and sorting/distributing mail. May work on special projects as assigned.  
Educational Background: 
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 3+ years of experience in a similar role. Other formal education or training is helpful.  
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.  Strong communication skills, organizational skills, and work ethics are required. Familiarity with MS Office 365 is required.
