AARP Studios Intern (Undergraduate)

Be warned: You will not hone your coffee-making skills at AARP Studios (but maybe coffee drinking ones.) You’ll be part of a video production team that is innovative, creative, and willing to test and learn and mentor. Oh, and we’re a friendly, inclusive group of people.

Applicants must have the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, exercise initiative, maintain a positive attitude, and be available to work as a part-time, year-round intern with our talented AARP Studios team at our office in Chinatown/Penn Quarter.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Our AARP Studios Undergraduate Intern will be responsible for:

  • Directly assisting our producers, production manager and post-production supervisor on various productions;
  • Combing blogs, news outlets, think tanks and research groups for story ideas;
  • Researching trends in the social and video space;
  • Researching trends in varying, diverse audiences;
  • Monitoring social media platforms for content;
  • Assisting multimedia producers on pre-production research and scripting, video shoots and/or editing;
  • Aiding in analytics reporting;
  • Aiding in formulating video distribution strategy;
  • Aiding in the social, paid and earned promotion of AARP content;
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience: 

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program. 

To be successful in this intern role, it is important that you meet the following requirements; 

  • Maintain active and responsible social media profiles;
  • You are comfortable with public speaking;
  • Possess a basic understanding of the needs of video production;
  • Demonstrate strong editing and writing skills;
  • Able to manage multiple, varying tasks;
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of social media analytics and metrics;
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic that is deadline driven and highly organized;
  • Is Detail-oriented;
  • Know online audiences and the importance of various media used to communicate with them;
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of social media platforms and their strategic use;
  • Intern experience at a news/media org on the digital video or social team is highly desirable;
  • Skills in Adobe Creative Cloud and captioning software are a big plus.
