Summary Statement
This role supports the Enterprise Strategy function, in particular Strategy, Intelligence and Partnership Directors in executing and delivering against strategic projects. Projects include Issue Area and Priority strategy development and execution, special strategic projects as assigned by the CEO, development and management of signature strategic partnerships and delivery of strategic insights and trends to inform AARP’s future direction.
Responsibilities
Manages consulting projects with broad Association impact. Often responsible for work with high visibility and critical outcomes. Supports development of an enterprise agenda. Develops and manages specific project work plans; develops and manages project budgets; develops requests for proposals, selects vendors, and manages work of vendors. Oversees the work of staff assigned to major projects, providing direction, feedback, and contributing to staff performance reviews.
Supports, consults and advises internal clients and stakeholders on strategic topics, provides marketplace insights in supporting and enabling strategic relationships and other team strategic deliverables. Successfully manages complex and sometimes conflicting projects among multiple stakeholders. Supports design and execution of complex cross-cutting consulting projects, including those with innovative methodologies and highly constrained timelines and resources. Helps ensure the quality of projects, providing assistance in preparing and review of reports, including those prepared by vendors or other strategic advisors.
Coordinates with and manages vendors and coordinates with other staff to conduct or support the conduct of analyses, including collection, compilation and analysis of information from various internal and external sources.
Takes lead in design and production of internal strategy events and meetings, including session design, venue layout, materials production, coordination of staff to facilitate and logistics (including virtual)
Plays assistive and production roles in determining, transferring and communicating insights and recommendations. Collaborates with staff in preparation of reports and materials that maximize communications. Integrates related research findings and implications. Responds effectively to complex and challenging requests for clarification and elaboration either directly or by tapping into appropriate resources/experts.
Ensures the maintenance of up to date project records that are accessible by others.
Develops capacity within Enterprise Strategy by participating in efforts to redesign workflow and systems, and providing peer review and technical assistance to others.
Demonstrates self-leadership behaviors and cultural attributes in all interactions.
Provide extensive business case analyses across the enterprise strategy team to evaluate new business and social mission initiatives and help guide the best way to prioritize strategic priorities and partner relationships.
Provide recommendations and insights to internal clients - communicating analytical results to non-financial audiences in a clear and concise format.
Perform comprehensive market, business, and social mission due diligence supporting potential external relationships.
Identify, plan, execute, and analyze product tests.
Work with leadership on special initiatives to evaluate and develop new business strategies.
Constantly monitor marketplace trends and internal metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enable more accurate forecasting of future activities.
This role is designed for the incumbent to work with key stakeholders to gather and synthesize the right intelligence both internally and externally to help all levels of the organization make decisions that are consistent with the enterprise strategic plan and ultimately drive success of dashboard metrics.
This position requires an in-depth understanding of the various lines of business in which AARP is involved such as its advocacy work, growth of membership base and engaging the 50+ audience with its vast offering of products and services; in addition to the knowledge depth, the individual will be required to take on the challenge of making decisions or recommendations across these various areas to drive forth the strategic vision, directly impacting the potential success of AARP.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to synthesize findings for various audiences; the incumbent will be called upon as a trusted advisor to break down data or problems into concise statements that can be easily understood by those not intimately involved with a subject matter. The position will also require the ability to understand and convey where conflict or continuity exists within AARP’s strategic priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field of study
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the fields of Business Analysis, Business Strategy, Strategic Marketing, Competitive Intelligence or management consulting
- Advanced degree is preferred
- Must possess strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to derive creative solutions to tackle hard to answer questions
- Demonstrated skills in gathering data from multiple, often disparate, sources and synthesizing raw data into meaningful reports and presentations
- At least two years' experience synthesizing analysis or market research into powerful deliverables
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong project management skills with an ability to coordinate various groups and be proficient at managing multiple projects.
- 2+ years' experience working in Consulting, Finance, or similar analytical capacity.
- Commercial due diligence experience with very strong quantitative skills including familiarity with financial analysis, statistical methods, and data driven decision making.
- Excellent business judgment and ability to recognize business implications of data. Good understanding of marketing, finance, and business strategy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, curiosity and creativity, ability to collaborate well with others, and strong initiative are absolute requirements for this position.
