This position works within National Geographic’s Education division, and is an integral part of the team building a new digital asset library for educators. The Specialist works under the supervision of the Project Manager and supports the rest of the team developing the content assets for the library. The Specialist contributes to the preparation and publishing of educational resources, including web-and pdf-based instructional content that includes photos, videos, articles, idea sets, classroom activities, educator guides, case studies, explorer profiles, flash cards, infographics, maps, quizzes and other resources.
- Work as part of a team developing new content for the asset library. Tasks include providing content and media research and editorial support across the team for a variety of projects and content. Editing responsibilities include copy-editing, editing for content, and fact checking. Learn and use preferred NG style for quality assurance purposes. Safeguard the NGS brand by ensuring factual accuracy. Modify existing content for educator and learner audiences as requested (40%)
- Use National Geographic Society’s content management system (CMS) to create, publish, upload and maintain online content for the digital asset library. Create new landing pages, monitor and update existing landing and collection pages on the website. (35%)
- Engage in acquisition of media including photos, video, text, and other resources for use with the asset library. (20%)
- Stay current on NGS mission and values, and participate in department-wide initiatives. Stay up-to-date on research and development in K-12 education, and educational technology. (5%)
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
- 3+ years experience working in formal or informal educational settings and/or developing educational materials. Education and experience may be combined to meet experience requirements.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Ability to work on multiple projects with changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is essential. Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills. Highly effective organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience and knowledge about education and teaching. Experience with typical editorial/research processes and strong research skills. Proficiency in Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suites. Knowledge of HTML and Flash development a plus.
