World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Senior Program Officer (SPO) for Oceans.  The SPO manages planning, coordination, budgets, communication and implementation of a major conservation initiative in support of the WWF Oceans Team.   Builds NGO and academic partnerships/collaborations to generate meaningful conservation strategy that informs both policy and practice from local to international arenas. Communicates the nature and results of the work to interested institutions, donors, partner organizations, and the general public. Provides technical expertise in support of the WWF-Oceans team strategy.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Leads program and project management of strategic initiatives on resilient coastal ecosystem which includes blue carbon and climate adaptation. Works directly with project personnel, grantees, donors, and consultants, and others to facilitate coordination, communication, and regular reporting. Develops program-specific communication materials. Administers and monitors the budgets of assigned contracts and cooperative agreements, ensuring that data is accurate and timely. Reviews the status of projects, identifies problems and formulate recommendations for corrective action as appropriate. Follows up on contract deliverables and other requirements.
  • Develops proposals and plans for funding from private foundations and/or government aid agencies. Leads fundraising proposal and reports. Prepares and/or finalizes scopes of work, budgets, and administrative information for contracts and to ensure compliance with donor requirements.
  • Represents the Marine Team and WWF in internal and external audiences. Builds NGO and academic partnerships/collaborations to generate meaningful conservation science that informs both policy and practice from local to internal arenas.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
Educational Background: 
A Master’s degree is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must have at least 6 years of experience in international biodiversity conservation or related field
  • Experience in Africa, Asia or Latin America regions is preferred
  • Technical expertise in mangroves, mangrove restoration, large-scale land-use planning, coastal ecosystems or wetlands conservation is desired.
  • Experience in blue carbon is a plus.
  • Must have Strong project management skills, and the ability to work on initiatives with multiple and competing priorities.
  • Experience in cross-sectoral collaboration, facilitation of partnerships or coalitions is a plus.
  • Must have good interpersonal and networking skills, diplomacy and flexibility
  • Must be able to travel internationally and within the US (approximately 25%).
  • Excellent research and writing skills are essential
  • Strong analytic skills; quantitative skills required
  • Good interpersonal skills, including experience working in international developing country contexts.
  • Additional language skills, such as Spanish or French, is a plus.
