World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the world’s leading conservation organization, seeks a Publication Editor at our Washington, DC office. The Publication Editor is responsible for content coordination and editorial execution of the organization’s flagship publications, includingWorld Wildlife magazine, the Annual Report, and more. The role will focus on conceptualizing, assigning, and editing various stories and products for the Editorial Director’s final approval along with writing original copy, providing first and subsequent edits of others’ contributions, and ensuring that WWF publications, in coordination with all Editorial team content, is of the highest quality, consistent with WWF institutional objectives and goals, and delivered on time.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Conceives and delivers assigned editorial content for World Wildlifemagazine, including overseeing multiple departments, stories, and standalone features
  • Manages lineups, the review process, and multiple steps of the production process.
  • Directs activities of writers and other contributors, coordinates travel and budgeting, tracks and traffics content, and provides editorial oversight with the guidance of the Editorial Director.
  • Researches and fact checks content, manages program review, and ensures that content is consistently best-in-class.
  • Coordinates with Digital Content Specialist to ensure magazine and other print content is most effectively translated and distributed online.
  • Initiates and drives the on-time delivery of WWF’s Annual Report, other designated publications, and digital content products, coordinating content and design with in-house and external vendors, and ensuring the continued excellence of Editorial team projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 6 years’ experience required; some consumer publication experience, and editing stories including long form feature pieces is preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proven experience in managing content through concept, creation, refinement and deployment, including delivery of multiplatform stories.
  • Sound editorial judgment. Strong sense of story, superb writing and storytelling skills. Ability to think about stories across both print and digital storytelling platforms.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, effectively manage freelance writers and illustrators, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Creative, strategic and detail-oriented individual with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude, and a detailed approach to all tasks, including an ability to troubleshoot and work effectively with staff at all levels, as well as with a wide variety of stakeholders and with external vendors.
  • Knowledge of issues related to the environment, conservation, nature and the natural sciences and the ability to translate scientific and other detailed information into a story is preferred
