We are seeking applications from attorneys or recent law graduates who are interested in a one-year Fellowship in Public Interest Law.

The National Whistleblower Center (NWC) is a nationally recognized public interest organization, who’s supervisory attorneys are rated among the nation’s top whistleblower advocates. Some of our nationally known clients include FBI agents who exposed weaknesses in US counter terrorism programs and within the FBI crime-lab, international bankers who reported billions of dollars in monies held in illegal offshore bank accounts, and employees of government contractors who disclosed fraud in taxpayer paid federal programs. The NWC currently has a major focus in representing whistleblower who expose wildlife trafficking. 

In addition to the NWC’s trailblazing support of major precedent setting cases, our attorneys are respected authors and public advocates who have written the leading books on whistleblower law, testified on behalf of whistleblowers before Congress, and regularly assisted Congress in drafting key whistleblower protection legislation, including provisions signed into law in the Dodd-Frank Act, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Working one-on-one with attorneys, our Legal Fellows learn what it takes to defend whistleblowers against powerful opponents. Legal Fellows are responsible for assisting in all aspects of their cases. This includes having significant responsibility over ongoing cases, assisting in research and writing assignments, trial preparation, pre-trial discovery and other work normally assigned to associate attorneys or experienced attorneys depending on the background of the fellow. In addition, Legal Fellows often assist with key public policy assignments designed to expand the scope of whistleblower protections.

The successful candidate will be dedicated to protecting lawful disclosures of waste, fraud and abuse and improving whistleblower protections with the following skills: strong legal analysis and research, attention to detail, and superior written and oral communication.     

Compensation/Benefits: 

The Public Interest Law Fellowship position is a one-year full-time paid position. The salary range is $50-55K plus benefits. The NWC’s office is in the historic Georgetown area of Washington, D.C.   For purposes of loan deferrals, the NWC is a 503(c)3 organization.
