This position works within National Geographic’s Education division, and is an integral part of the team building a new digital asset library for educators. The Project Manager works under the supervision of the Manager of Instructional Design and supports the rest of the team developing the content assets for the library. This position manages the processes involved in the preparation and publishing of educational resources from inception to completion. Resources are web-and pdf-based instructional content that may include photos, videos, articles, idea sets, classroom activities, educator guides, case studies, explorer profiles, flash cards, infographics, maps, quizzes and other resources.
- Manage projects with supervision to meet established goals. Set and maintain timelines and deliverables. Manage timeline, workflow, schedule, calendar, and tasks across project team and partners in order to meet deliverables on time and within budget. Determine needs for meetings and facilitate regular communication between project team members and stakeholders. Manage and write contracts, reports, presentations, proposals and other business documents. Track, analyze and report on project budget, legal documentation, invoices/payments and metrics. Manage the planning, development and the review of multiple projects simultaneously. (35%)
- Contribute to the conceptualization of project content. Determine content development needs for projects to meet specific goals. Contribute to the instructional design of assets for the library. Hire and manage contract staff as necessary including topic experts, teacher-contributors, and freelance personnel. Review incoming materials from contract writers and work with the Editors to manage the revision process. Serve as liaison to project partners (internal and external). (35%)
- Work closely with Marketing and Engagement team on developing and tracking plans for publicity, dissemination and training on the asset library as appropriate. Represent the asset library at Digital Team meetings to ensure close communication around digital needs (platform builds, schedules, templates, UX testing…etc.) and timing for the asset library. Manage the content upload and maintenance in the web content management system, and create, monitor and update collection pages as assigned. (20%)
- Participate in society and department-wide programs and innovation. Stay current with NGS mission, research, initiatives and media, and assist the team in leveraging these assets. Keeps up with trends, research, and updates in the fields of education, geography, and the National Geographic. Assemble summary reports of resources, research and trends for various audiences. (10%)
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
- 4+ years in project management experience with at least 2+ years of management experiene. Education and experience may be combined to meet experience requirements.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Ability to work on multiple projects with changing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is essential. Experience in project management. Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills. Highly effective organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficiency in Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suites. Knowledge of HTML and Flash development a plus.
