Summary Statement

The AARP Foundation’s Experience Corps is looking for a star intern to join its headquarters team in Washington, DC. The student intern will receive a rich overview of this AARP Foundation program that provides reading interventions in predominantly urban elementary schools and will gain insights into how we engage the community, business and other external groups in reaching our goals. The position is hands on and the intern should come prepared to learn and apply a variety of interpersonal, time management and organizational skills to name a few.

Responsibilities

As an integral part of our team, the intern will have responsibility in the following areas:

  • Provide data entry and analysis support;
  • Update social media pages;
  • Produce a monthly or bi-monthly Newsletter (collecting stories, writing, editing etc.)
  • Identify projects for service initiatives such as M L King Day, AmeriCorps service week etc.;
  • Coordinate multiple projects such as school book drives & book distributions;
  • Create and update Word documents, Power Point & Excel spreadsheets to meet various needs;
  • Create toolboxes with educational resources;
  • Respond to email messages using correct departmental protocols;
  • Provide research for  educational materials and resources to be used by volunteers;
  • Assist with the preparation of materials for training sessions;
  • Event planning and execution;
  • Volunteer outreach.

Requirements

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.  AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers.  This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
