Context: Coordinates all trainings hosted by the Equity Department, including assessment, design, implementation and follow-up. Engages in Equity Department planning to become a more just, equitable and inclusive organization. Open location with a preference for position to be based in Oakland, Washington DC or Denver.

Scope: This position will work directly with the Equity Director, staff, volunteers, third party consultants/trainers and equity teams to coordinate all trainings hosted by the Equity Department in realizing Sierra Club’s vision to become a more just, equitable and inclusive organization. Work closely with staff and volunteer equity teams to ensure consistency in approach and delivery. This position will need to identify meaningful trends and connections across the organization to design strategic trainings for high-impact and also tailored for each audience. This position will practice record-keeping and research to measure progress.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Design, deliver and oversee the training of individuals and groups (both staff and volunteers) across the organization.
    • This position will work closely with third-party trainers to design, deliver and assess trainings hosted by the department. This position will also be expected to deliver less-intensive trainings (as needed and where appropriate).
    • Performing pre-training assessment to strategically identify the training homework, content and goals appropriate for each training audience.
    • Perform post-training assessment to measure progress made towards goals and other cultural/behavioral learnings or impacts from the training.
  • Work actively with the department’s equity teams and third-party consultants to coordinate learnings and to regularly gather feedback to improve consistency of all trainings hosted by the Equity Department.
  • Work closely with the Cultural and Behavior Metrics Analyst to design surveys and to measure progress towards the organization’s equity goals.
  • Continuously identify the greatest learning needs, challenges and solutions of the organization in order to drive progress on our equity goals.
  • Manage a calendar of training opportunities (internal and external) and a learning resource library for issues related to equity and justice.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree - preference on focus areas of diversity, behavioral change analysis, adult learning/education and/or other related area. Upper-level education beyond Bachelor’s degree is appreciated.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years of experience in training facilitation, design and assessment.
  • Organizational skills to maintain records and track pre and post-facilitation feedback.
  • Experience advising about the effects of discrimination on grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation.  Advocating for and presenting the needs of people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and those affected by age or disability while raising awareness of equity issues and promoting change.
  • A working knowledge and understanding of the ways implicit bias, personal identity and power and privilege impact individuals, systems, and structures.
  • Experience preparing and socializing training materials to improve impactful training experiences and learning.
  • Exceptional facilitation skills and confidence in preparing and delivering presentations. Familiarity and experience utilizing facilitation practices such as: small group dialogues, dyads, physical mapping, spectrums, storytelling, visual diagrams, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Active listener with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Teamwork - Ability to lead and interact cooperatively and effectively with teams, staff and volunteers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. 
  • Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
