Love public radio and NPR and want to support its vision and mission? Are you a policy wonk with an over the top attention to detail? Is music your close companion? Working with a diverse and committed group of NPR, public radio station and public radio system professionals you will hold primary responsibility for assembling a portfolio of policy, regulatory and legislative proposals that addresses the specific needs of the public radio community and public broadcasting generally. You’ll also pitch in to help with station communications strategies and collaborate with staff across NPR Divisions on an ongoing basis to support department and cross-divisional initiatives.
- Identify a portfolio of policy sectors that will influence the success of public radio’s future and develop positions in each arena to address public radio needs and opportunities.
- Establish and develop strong relationships with key congressional, regulatory and public radio/broadcasting system leaders.
- Construct case statement and rational to extend public radio’s unique positioning into new emerging policy and legislative arenas.
- Work to strengthen activities to enable strong congressional support for public radio’s role in media, journalism, music and cultural programming.
- Build upon and improve existing community engagement projects that will enhance public radio’s ability to sustain and increase federal funding.
- Support policy objectives identified as priorities by NPR, member stations and other entities within the pubic radio system.
- Ten+ years of public policy development and lobbying experience with strong understanding of telecom, privacy, digital media and other emerging policy areas important to public radio’s future success.
- Institutional/system knowledge of broadcasting, media, music rights and digital content platforms.
- Strong communication skills. Highly articulate, with strong presentation and writing abilities.
- Excellent networking and relationship-building abilities.
- Familiarity with federal appropriations and budget processes.
- Success in developing and administering collaborative community engagement plans.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
- Appreciation for and understanding of public radio’s role and mission.
