Director of Partnerships, Global Climate Action Summit

The Director of Partnerships for the Global Climate Action Summit will be employed by the United Nations Foundation and seconded to the office of the Governor of California. The Director of Partnerships will lead a team to develop and execute a partnership strategy, engaging partners from the corporate, non-profit, academic, and government sectors, as well as individuals. The Director of Partnerships will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with new partners for the Summit, as well as leveraging relationships with existing. The Director of Partnerships will collaborate with the Director of Communications and the fundraising team to define and execute partner and fundraising engagement strategies.

This is a full-time position beginning on December 1, 2017, and ending on December 31, 2018.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop and execute the Summit partnership strategy to engage hundreds of partners from the corporate, non-profit, academic, and government sectors, as well as individuals
  • Collaborate with other Summit staff to initiate, develop, and execute Summit partnerships
  • Develop and execute a strategy for engaging Summit champions, in close collaboration with the fundraising team
    Manage a Summit Partnerships team of 1-3 staff
  • Work with the Summit Communications Director and the Summit Fundraising Director to define and execute partner and fundraising engagement strategies
  • Manage all Summit-related partnerships through the end of 2018
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • 7+ years of experience in local and/or global partnership and coalition building, project design and management, high-level partner management, and advocacy
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated excellence working in a fast-paced environment; ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong management experience and ability to liaise with multiple teams to drive success
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Previous experience with event management preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Interest, knowledge of or experience in climate policy
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress

California Governor Edmund Gerald (Jerry) Brown Jr. and his team will lead, organize, and host the Global Climate Action Summit in September 2018 in San Francisco, CA.
