Provide support for the digital educator community, Nat Geo Educator Certification Program, and Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program. Responsibilities include managing communication with National Geographic’s K-12 educator audience through email, newsletters, and digital community, monitoring of community activities, event planning, research, and writing.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Program Support: Provide support for the the digital educator community, Nat Geo Educator Certification Program, and Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program. Duties include: assisting with community moderation, tracking and managing certification submissions and fellowship applications, tagging and cataloging videos, processing invoices and reimbursements, organizing survey feedback, and coordinating review processes through an online portal. (35%)
  • Communication with Educators: Prepare communications via email, webpages, online submission/application forms, message boards, and digital hangouts to support educators' progress on Nat Geo Educator Certification, the Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Program, and related community programs. (20%)
  • Writing and Research: Write and design bi-weekly digital community newsletter. Identify and interview educators for weekly blog series. Write copy, edit and update text from other writers, and post according to editorial schedules. Research and curate relevant education resources for the digital community. Research best practices related to digital educator engagement and certification and fellowship programs. (20%)
  • Event Planning: Assist in planning events, meetings, and workshops, including pre-event planning, on-site logistics, and occasional presentations. Represent National Geographic as an exhibitor at conferences as needed. (15%)
  • Special Project Support: Provide support for webinars, online courses, classroom challenges, and virtual hangouts with Nat Geo Explorers. Assist team members with special projects as needed. (10%)
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field
Skills/Experience: 

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

  • 2 years of experience, preferably in the nonprofit or education sector

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Must have demonstrable skills in relationship building, customer service, research, and effective written and oral communication. Highly organized, flexible, diplomatic, and detail-oriented; high level of efficiency in scheduling and overseeing workflow. Ability to identify gaps and find solutions to problems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Basic skills in Photoshop, managing digital communities/social media, and web production preferred. Experience or interest in working with educators strongly preferred.
