At AARP, we are the largest social mission organization in the country and you will learn from our talented Government Affairs team to develop strategy, data and advocate on behalf of our 38 Million members.

Areas of Responsibility: 

AARP's Government Affairs Team is looking for a star intern to work on the Campaigns team. You will develop your business skills while working for the largest social mission organization in the country. Duties include:

  • Providing assistance to the entire Campaigns team in:
  • Producing analyses of political intelligence on AARP strategic issues including legislative, electoral and media trends.
  • Analyzing the voting records and positions of key members of Congress and monitoring selected interest groups to leverage campaign effectiveness.
  • Assisting the members of the Campaign Management in developing tactics for issue campaigns and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Working with social media to support AARP issue campaigns.

You will work under the close supervision of Campaign management staff. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently as part of the team and collaboratively are required.  You will have opportunities to work closely with the Manager and other members of the Campaigns team as necessary, to support the goals of AARP Campaigns:

  • You will prepare materials related to AARP’s multi-state campaigns by utilizing PowerPoint, Word documents, and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Gather research and compile information and recommendations regarding priority advocacy issues. This could include online searches, reviewing publications, and accessing library materials.
Educational Background: 
Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors.
Skills/Experience: 
  • The intern should have the ability to work under tight deadlines at times and be able to cope with a fast-paced environment.
