Senior Development Associate / Development Manager

 

The American Flood Coalition (AFC) is a nonpartisan group of more than 300 elected officials, local leaders, military groups, and businesses that have come together to advocate for national solutions to sea level rise and flooding. The Coalition advances resilient and equitable solutions that support adaptation and recovery in flood-affected communities and protect our nation’s residents, economy, and military installations. With a uniquely singular focus on flooding and sea level rise, a creative approach to finding solutions, and an appreciation for deep community partnerships that leverage existing efforts, the Coalition seeks to significantly improve how communities around the country adapt to flooding and sea level rise. AFC is located in Washington, D.C.

 

 

Position Summary

We are seeking a strategic, and innovative Senior Development Associate to join our fast-growing organization. As a newly created and key position reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role will be responsible for growing and establishing our development functions, including building and managing the fundraising pipeline, overseeing stewardship with current donors, writing proposals and reports, and supporting the Executive Director in all fundraising efforts. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter who is excited to work on developing strategies to increase organizational funding, is energized by creating structure and process, and possesses outstanding organizational and communication skills. The Senior Development Associate position is a tremendous opportunity to expand and implement a multi-year fundraising strategy and join a team of passionate and talented people, who are dedicated to helping flood-affected communities adapt and thrive. Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Director and Chief of Staff in creating and implementing a multi-year development strategy.
  • Lead donor team internal operations, including managing donor stewardship, fundraising pipeline, and grant contracts, and setting up new systems and processes to scale impact.
  • Advise and support the Executive Director on donor cultivation, networking, and communication.
  • Identify new leads through prospect research.
  • Write grant proposals and reports and correspondence with donors.
  • Craft compelling impact stories for donors, in coordination with the marketing and communications team.

 

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in development and grants management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to exercise excellent judgment, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Experience writing strong grant proposals and reports.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects; leverage strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at developing systems and protocols.
  • Familiarity with CRMs and a track record of picking up new systems and software quickly.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Base salary ranges from $75,000-$85,000 with generous bonus opportunities.
