The Accounting Clerk for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids supports the Finance and Administration Department in the important coordinating role of weekly Accounts Payable processing and works to support basic accounting and business-related functions.  The AC aids in a variety of financial administrative matters to ensure clear, accurate, smooth, and timely financial reporting including: data entry, financial reconciliation, grants processing support, file maintenance (electronic and hard copies), and assist with accounts receivable, travel expenses, and other administrative/financial tasks as needed. 

This position is based in Washington, D.C. and reports to the Senior Accountant. Staff work under a Hybrid work model with work time in the office and at home. Full COVID-19 vaccinations are required for all employees.  

Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly AP, filing invoices and tracking the status of each account.
  • Group documents that require knowledge in determining proper classification of     accounting codes and expenditure codes.
  • Assist with data entry and management, sort documents, and process transactions.
  • Assist with transaction reconciliation and expense reports for monthly reporting.
  • Support, review, and analyze data and present information to supervisor or other team professionals.
  • Assist with accounting-specific tasks to include: writing simple business correspondence, training for contract processing, training and support for Concur Expense system, training and support for travel expenses/reconciliation and other operational practices.
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable: process daily invoices, apply cash receipts and assist with unpaid accounts and funds owned.
  • Support timely research.
  • Coordinate Weekly Accounts Payable:
  • Organize and Process Financial Transactions
  • Prepare Month-End Reports: 
  • Assist with Clerical, Administrative Tasks and Training: 
  • Cross-train in Amex and HSBC processing and provide back-up for Staff Accountant team members
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant or the Director or VP Finance and Administration.

Qualifications:

    • BA degree in accounting or similar discipline with at least two (2) years’ practical experience;
    • Prior non-profit experience preferred;
    • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
    • Solid knowledge and usage of Accounts Payable (AP), including processing invoices and appropriate coding, and Accounts Receivable (AR);
    • Intermediate Microsoft Excel;
    • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data;
    • Ability to multitask and communicate effectively with individuals of all backgrounds;
    • Exercises sound judgment and initiative for accomplishing requirements of the job;
    • Work well in teams, thrive on team culture, and understand the importance of each role in the department and office; and
    • Willingness to learn, adapt to changes, learn new skills, and grow. 

 

Compensation/Benefits: 

$51,100 - $76,700 a year

Salaries commensurate with experience and departmental budget.
