This position is under the Director of Childcare Services and within the policies established by the Wallingford Family YMCA. The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the day to day operations of the school-age program. Major responsibilities include providing adequate staff for each site, ordering supplies, and assisting in program development and implementation. The Coordinator will also ensure that each program is conducted in accordance with the purposes and policies of the YMCA and meet State of Connecticut licensing requirements.

Responsible for day to day operations for nine before and after school care programs. Ensure programs are operating within the State of CT Childcare licensing guidelines.

Areas of Responsibility: 

In performing the duties of this position the SAGE Coordinator shall:

  • STAFF ADMINISTRATION –Hire, supervise, motivate, and evaluate staff in respective department. Work with Human Resources on recruiting, hiring and training staff as necessary.
  • PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT – On a continuing basis, evaluate and upgrade existing programs; develop new progressive and innovative programs.
  • PROGRAM GROWTH – Expand programs to new sites and new markets.
  • PROGRAM SUPPORT – Act as Head Teacher as needed. Manage Storm Club program and assist in Camp Ulbrich programs.
  • VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT – Aggressively recruit volunteers for department. Recommend committee and board member prospects to the executive director through personal contact.
  • FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT – Participate as a leader in the Community Support Campaign (CSC).
  • ASSIST in the development of the department annual budget and responsible for monitoring and ensuring program is operating efficiently.
  • ATTEND meetings and trainings as needed or assigned.
  • INTERPRET licensing requirements and maintaining state regulations for each of the programs, to ensure compliance with regard to staff and children’s files. Ensure all sites are operating according to regulations.
  • COMPLETE reports, projects and assignments and follow all YMCA business and policy guidelines as required.
  • RELATE to Board of Directors through Committee Participation.
  • UNDERTAKE other duties as assigned.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-4 years related experience preferred
  • current State of CT Childcare Certifications
  • Elementary Education preferred
  • STEM/STEAM program experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Must be able to be Head Teacher certified by The Office of Early Childhood within 30 days of hire.
  • This Coordinator must be able to work in cooperation with other professional staff and to supervise and direct staff and volunteers. This position requires a high degree of flexibility and growth as well as a capacity to relate with children, staff, parents and committees; Knowledge of State of CT Childcare licensing requirements.
Compensation/Benefits: 
  • Dental, Health, Life, LT disability insurance offered. After 2 years 8% retirement is funded as of the date of this posting.
  • 10 paid holidays, 15 days of paid vacation, 6 days of paid sick leave, 3 personal days.

Salary: $35,000.00 - $40,000.00
