The YMCA Health and Wellness Director is a nationally certified fitness professional who works with clients and directs all aspects of personal training and Wellness appointments for the Family Center including recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA health and wellness programs. Ensures a safe, fun, and enjoyable experience for members and program participants. Provides leadership to personal training and health and wellness teams. Develops plans and implements new procedures and methods within Association guidelines to achieve strategic goals. Assists the Family Center Executive Director in the development of member centered programs and provides leadership role as assigned to the Annual Fundraising Campaign and key Family Center Initiatives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • 70% management focus on Personal Training/Wellness/Clinical programs at Hilltop YMCA
  • 20% leadership to annual giving and other special projects
  • 10% association and family center meetings and/or manager on duty assignments

Priorities:

  • Responsible for development and execution of Group Exercise, Personal Training, Clinical Fitness and Health and Wellness Association goals
  • Support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members through the creation of successful marketing plans, strategies and health and wellness programming to achieve financial goals of the family center.
  • Supervision of all aspects of Group Exercise Instructors, Personal Trainers and Wellness Staff at the Hilltop Family YMCA

  • The Health and Wellness Director must understand and be willing to learn the necessary skills required for the successful completion of duties including:

Budget and Financial Performance

  • Prepares the annual income and expense budget for the above-mentioned departments. Exercises necessary controls to assure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position
  • Meets specific YMCA goals including selling personal training packages to clients, customer service, and client retention

Program Development and Membership Engagement

  • Designs fitness programs at the YMCA family center for not only their own clients in addition to initiating, supporting and directing programs his or her entire staff
  • Monitors the achievements of program objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievement of the objectives are the highest quality programs and services. Follows Association quality guidelines
  • Performs 20 hours hands on service, a combination of training clients and working fitness floor

Team Performance Toward Organizational Goals

  • Supervises Wellness Coaches and Personal Trainers
  • Recruits, onboards, and trains YMCA hired personal trainers and volunteers
  • Provides continuous evaluation and feedback on personal trainers’ professionalism, service to clients, and personal training skills

Fundraising

  • Leads assigned aspects of YMCA fundraising activities and special events

Professional Development

  • Maintains Personal Training certification from a nationally recognized certifying body
  • Completes required trainings, including New Staff Orientation, blood borne pathogens, and child abuse prevention
  • Participates in Association Health and Wellness Cabinets and trainings
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Wellness field is preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must hold a current Personal Training Certification from a nationally recognized organization with NCAA Accreditation
  • Must hold a current CPR/AED certification
  • One or more years of supervisory experience in the Health & Wellness field
  • Strong human relation skills to facilitate positive relationships with participants, members and staff

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physically able to successfully complete required job functions, including the use of hands, arms, fingers, able to talk and hear, use a computer, sit and stand, regularly move/lift up to 100 pounds, enter all YMCA environments (office spaces, indoor and outdoor maintenance/mechanical areas, fitness areas, pool and pool space, camping areas, unimproved outdoor locations and other program areas)
  • Walk, run, stand, climb, kneel, sit on the floor and get back up and stoop
  • Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking
  • Stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Will be exposed to cleaning supplies
  • Physically able to successfully complete required certifications.
  • Perform the duties of direct reports
