Take the next step in your career with this rewarding opportunity to join the YMCA of South Hampton Roads as the Health and Wellness Director of the Princess Anne Family YMCA. This family center opened in the fall of 2015, is located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Our facilities consist of 18 Family Centers, a satellite fitness center, a resident day camp, 2 regional day camps, 5 junior golf course programs for The First Tee of Hampton Roads, and 45 child care sites.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA Health and Wellness programs. Ensures a safe, fun, and enjoyable experience for members and program participants.

FLSA Status: Full time Exempt (Classification may change to full time non-exempt /hourly to meet D.O.L. regulations)
Priorities:
- Develop annual operating objectives for all Wellness Center programs including FitQuest, Y-Change, Group Exercise both land and water, Personal Training and Member Retention Initiatives.
- Monitor the achievements of said objectives and exercise appropriate action to assure the achievement of the objectives are the highest quality programs and services. Follow quality guidelines as outlined in Association Goldbook.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed. Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Prepare the annual income and expense budget for the above-mentioned departments. Exercise necessary controls to assure operations are carried out in a balanced fiscal position.
- Work with Association Community Health Staff to infuse new initiatives in the family center.
- Participate in Association Health and Wellness Cabinet and trainings.
- Engage members in FitQuest and Association fitness challenges to achieve AIMs in the Association Cause Driven Measures.
- Lead by example; cultivating personal training clientele, teaching Group Exercise classes and working as a Coach on the Wellness Floor a minimum of 15 hours per week.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness and function to Wellness Center facility and equipment.
- Assist in successful YMCA annual support campaign.
- Serve as staff liaison to board designated committees.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
- Assist in the leadership of family center special events, (i.e. Healthy Kids Day,
- Active Older Adults Day, Fun Run/Walk, etc.)
- Adhere to all YMCA of South Hampton Roads’ policies, procedures, rules, regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health & Fitness or related field preferred.
- Must have YMCA or other nationally recognized (ACE, AFAA or ACSM) fitness certification.
- One or more years of supervisory experience in above mentioned programs.
- Strong human relation skills to facilitate positive relationships with Participants,members and staff.

- Must have ability to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, and to travel as needed for operational management, including on-site presence in managing major operational problems.
- Must have superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to respond to a wide variety of constituencies, including staff, volunteers, members, program participants, vendors, community leaders, etc.
- Perform the duties of direct reports as needed.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Candidate must possess sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
- Will be required to walk, stand, kneel, stoop, push, and lift up to 100 pounds.
- Physically able to successfully complete required certifications.
- While performing duties the employee may occasionally work in the outside weather conditions, and is exposed to wet, cold and /or humid conditions.
- Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and multi-tasking.
- Will be exposed to cleaning supplies.
- Must be able to perform the duties of those they supervise.
- Flexibility with work schedule is necessary; evening, weekend and holiday shifts may be required for coverage.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.
Continuation of employment is contingent upon receipt of satisfactory results to meet minimum requirements of the position. The requirements may include background check, drug test, driver’s license record, CPS, and/or criminal background check.
Additional driver’s license check, CPS, criminal background check, alcohol, and/or drug testing may be required to be processed in the future in order to meet and/or maintain the requirements of this position.
