Our Y is looking for a dynamic, energetic, and a motivated individual to join our growing Aquatics Department in Southern NJ!
This position is primarily responsible, under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating those programs within the Aquatics area in accordance with the mission, purposes and polices of the association. Additional responsibilities include quality assurance, member interaction, recruiting, orienting, training and supervising all staff, paid and volunteer, related to his/her area of responsibility. This position will work within the guidelines of the aquatic policies. Also includes work at a summer camp waterfront swimming and boating program.
The Assistant Aquatic Director will handle Lifeguard scheduling and managing the Y’s various activities while working within the budget. Assist in the planning and scheduling of program facilities for the smooth functioning of daily operations. Assist in the scheduling, planning, and attend all in-services, drills, and meetings. Assist with training, orientation, evaluation, supervision and hours’ management of Aquatic staff. Be able to efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision. The Assistant Aquatic Director must be able to schedule, assist with the registration process, lead and direct a variety of instructional programs at a quality level using the new Y Swim Lessons v6 curriculum, including outside school and community groups. Be able to serve as a hands on aquatic staff and assist with daily operation of the pool, aquatics equipment, and natatorium. The Assistant Aquatic Director will also work in organizing aquatic and family events, rentals, swim meets for our members and community. Maintain monthly records concisely for control, evaluation and reporting of programs and volunteers. And especially, have an enthusiasm and commitment to make the Aquatics facility a safe and fun place for the Greater Vineland community.
- College graduate and equivalent Aquatic experience. At least 21 years of age, with YMCA or current ARC Lifeguard-Waterfront certification and related prerequisite certifications. Strongly preferred YMCA Y Swim Instructor or ARC WSI certification.
- At least two years experience in Aquatic swim instruction and leadership management of various Aquatic programs; pool maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience supervising staff and developing pool and class schedules, as well as good member and staff relation skills.
- Must be aware of YMCA movement and trends in the aquatic field and must continue to enhance his/her knowledge in YMCA Aquatic Management and certifications.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all segments of the community.
- Ability to represent the YMCA in a mature and professional manner. Able to make sound judgments and have good organizational, communication, and computer skills.
