Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, the Facility Director is responsible for the maintenance, housekeeping, and overall appearance of the facilities and grounds of the Ventura Family YMCA.  The incumbent is responsible for providing a safe, clean environment for YMCA members and guests. The individual in this position is responsible for the development and administration of the Building Services Budget; hiring, scheduling, training, supervising and evaluating maintenance and/or custodial staff; administering contracts, energy conservation; and providing hands on skills to correct problems as they occur. The incumbent participates as a member of the Management Team and manages scheduling for facility events and manages the environmental quality of the facilities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Hires, supervises, trains & evaluates Building Service Dept. employees.
  • Develops and manages Building Service Department budget, including the developing and maintaining preventative maintenance and R&R programs. 
  • Develops maintenance and housekeeping schedules.
  • Manages work order system.
  • Manages tool, equipment, and supply inventories.
  • Maintains pools facility including but not limited to pool chemical balance and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provides on-site supervision of facility improvement projects.
  • Follows and implements safety and risk management procedures.
  • Administers building service contracts.
  • Participates as member of Branch Staff Management Team.
  • Performs housekeeping or maintenance tasks as necessary.
  • Advises the Executive Director on actions necessary to maintain the facility in a safe, structurally sound, and attractive manner.
  • Troubleshoots and problem solves branch property-related situations, making repairs/improvements as needed.
  • Gives assistance to the development of long-range plans for all properties, grounds, and other assets owned by the Branch.
  • Serves as liaison with consultants and contractors hired by the Branch for construction projects.
  • Collaborates with Association Property Management and Executive Director during the negotiation of and completion of contracts for services, study, construction, etc.
  • Initiates actions that assure facilities and properties are in compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
  • Develops and implements plans in order to reduce energy consumption; i.e., electric, gas, etc., in the branch facility.
  • Assists the Executive Director & management in projects and special events as assigned.
  • With Safety Committee & Executive Director, develops updates and implements risk management procedures for the branch.
  • Acts as staff liaison to the Branch Building and Grounds Committee and Facilities P.M.T.
Educational Background: 
A minimum of high school education and a valid Driver’s License are required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three years of experience in commercial or institutional management.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge and experience in trades including electrical, plumbing, mechanical.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle under the parameters set by the Channel Islands YMCA and the insurance carrier.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and work on ladders and scaffolds.
  • Maintain telephone service to be on-call as needed.
  • Ability to secure C.P.O. (Certified Pool Operator) certification.
  • This position requires proven successful experience in facility management, budget administration, and supervision.  Must have a broad-based knowledge and experience in facility and equipment mechanical systems, troubleshooting, custodial functions, and preventive maintenance procedures. 
  • The incumbent must possess the ability to work with the building trades and contractors and interact with staff and laymen. 
  • The incumbent must have a high standard of personal reliability, an eye for cleanliness, and the ability to work with a team.
  • Must possess knowledge of the YMCA as a Volunteer/Staff partnership and possess the Human Relation skills to work with corporate staff, branch staff, and volunteer leadership and outside vendors.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT / MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential duties of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. 
  • Requires light physical activity such as phone and computer work. 
  • Requires walking, driving, lifting 50 pounds, stooping, crouching, and bending. 
  • Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and results will be submitted to the Association Human Resources Department.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $24.00 - $26.00
