The VP of Child Development is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the development,implementation and direction of the organization’seducation model for achieving and sustaining high levels of student achievement in alignment with the overall strategy and mission of the YMCA. She/he works with the team and faculty to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum and concepts andleverages the necessary supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student to his/her fullest potential.

Supporting a culture of excellence in teaching and learning, focusing on the achievement of all children, and supporting the mission, the VP of Child Development oversees all elements of youth development and site management for all students to meet the YMCA’s highest aspirations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop visionary goals for The SKY FAMILY YMCA’s work related to the education of youth with a comprehensive focus on serving all communities.
  • Provide leadership to the Education Department team which currently consists of 4 Early Childhood Education Centers, 2 Charter Schools and branch afterschool locations.
  • Oversee the operations of all Education Centers of the SKY Family YMCA to ensure quality, consistency, and student success
  • Lead the selection, training and implementation educational standards and initiatives; scheduling; implementation of goals and selection of instructional materials. Analyze test data, determine ways to improve instruction and student goals.
  • Recruit, select and supervise SEA and SKY Academy staff and assigned Program Directors.
  • Provide training expertise across The SKY Family YMCA and develop select trainings to advance the mission.
  • Lead high-quality evaluation efforts of the YMCA’s education work, engaging outside partners as warranted.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team which oversees the overall management of the YMCA.
  • In partnership with the YMCA’s finance leader, develop the annual plan and budget for the Education Department in support of the overall strategic plan.
  • Work with Principals, Center Directors and teaching staff to implement program curriculum with fidelity.
  • Implement child assessments and ensure reliably, including understanding of outcomes data and usage as a tool to plan individualized achievement goals.
  • Serve as a public representative of the Education programs of the SKY Family YMCA
  • Develop positive relationships with other YMCA’s, schools, training providers, licensing & accrediting agencies and other nonprofits and the general community.
  • Mentor and guide all staff and volunteers to ensure an environment of growth and harmony in all centers in alignment with the mission of the YMCA.
  • Develop and ensure full implementation of all aspects of YMCA policies/procedures andprotocols.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Graduate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field plus 5 years related experience and/or training,
Skills/Experience: 
  • 3 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred candidate has extensive experience teaching, leading and developing others in an Early Childhood Education environment or related YMCA program.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge/existing relationships with the Department of Education (DOE), Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Early Learning Coalitions
  • Working knowledge of DCF and County rules and regulatory requirements as well as credentialing requirements for staff
  • Ability to direct all operations of the centers.
  • Relationships with Foundations and organizations supportive of our YMCA education initiative
  • Ability to communicate professionally, write reports, policy and business correspondence.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Required Certifications

  • Florida DCF Director’s Credential preferred
  • YMCA Leadership certification preferred
  • Infant/child CPR & First Aid
  • Annual completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens training
  • Annual completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class
  • Successfully complete DCF background screening requirements as well as meet the association policies on background screening.
  • Additional training classes as recommended.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00
