Under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, the Associate Executive Director will work in our flagship branch and is responsible for the administration, management and oversight of various YMCA programs including Membership, Wellness and Youth Programs.  The Associate Executive Director has fiscal responsibility, program compliance and outcome measurements, and responsibility to ensure the safety & well-being of all students and participants. Participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Meet or exceed branch  goals and strategies, including a membership budget of $2.6M
  • Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs diverse staff and volunteers. 
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Guides others on how to strengthen knowledge, skills, and competencies that improve organizational performance.
  • Ensures operating budgets meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
  • Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and the leadership team.
  • Builds bridges within the community so that all segments of society have access to the Y.
  • Effectively communicates community benefit and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., staff, volunteers, members, community leaders) develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Provides staff support for assigned committees. Provides staff leadership for annual fundraising campaign.
  • Ensures high standards of maintenance, safety and cleanliness in facilities used by the YMCA to assure that the requirements of regulatory codes are fully met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business or a related field, or equivalent, preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Proven experience in directing high-quality member engagement strategies which support branch and association goals and strategies.
  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and supervising cohesive and engaged diverse staff team.
  • Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development.
  • Ability to develop and monitor assigned budget
  • Experience with marketing and public relations as it relates to program growth and development.
  • Experience in nurturing and growing a membership base.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00
