This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Director of Recreation works collaboratively with the Sr. Director of Programs to oversee the development, operations, expansion, evaluation and delivery of Recreation programs in an effort to establish the YMCA as the premier Youth Development organization in our community.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Regularly strategizes department goals and priorities; responsible for the overall performance, development and operation of Recreation programming to meet YMCA objectives and fulfill community needs based on ongoing analysis
- Partner with program supervisors to ensure ongoing program viability and continued growth
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives, including benchmarks and goals
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of all stakeholders
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans; grows and manages referral network for wellness programs
- Facilitates participant acquisition through recruitment, screening and enrollment of eligible participants
- Collaborates with Marketing department on design and development of program materials; utilizes templates
- Works with Development to secure program funding
- Consults with Y USA for updated program resources
- Adheres to all HIPPA standards and policies
- Plans and implements programs, leagues, camps, clinics and classes which may include, but are not limited to creating rosters, practice schedules, game schedules, coordinating volunteer coaches and parent meetings, assisting with program marketing, maintaining gym schedules, providing customer service and the purchasing of equipment.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and schools.
- Ensure the safety of all children through implementing best practices in areas of risk management and child abuse prevention policies
- Hire, train and assist in supervision of assigned program staff and volunteers, including but not limited to ensuring adherence to work schedule, monitoring staff performance and ensuring staff follow policies and procedure
- Oversee Valpo Skates and Adult Sports programs
- Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions; follow procedures for reporting all accidents, incidents and hazards
- Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations as outlined in employee handbook and other communications
- Accept additional assignments as deemed appropriate, within the scope of the job description.
- Participate in leadership committees, fundraising activities, special projects and additional assignments as needed
- Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting accidents, incidents and hazards
- Adhere to policies, rules and regulations, as outlined in employee handbook and other communications
- Obtain and maintain required trainings
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management or equivalent or 3-5 years recreation programming experience required
Skills/Experience:
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong proof reading and editing skills required
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents required
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products required
- Availability outside of traditional hours as needed, including morning, evenings and weekends, required
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $33,000.00 - $36,000.00
