This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Director of Development serves as a member of the Development team, providing strategic Cause-Driven Leadership in financial development through the achievement of strategic goals.  Assists the Sr. Director of Advancement with leading comprehensive fundraising and development programs, with an emphasis on management of the annual giving program and staff training.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Assist the Sr. Director of Advancement to interpret, communicate and promote Y mission, goals and objectives to staff, employees, volunteer leaders, members and the community.  
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
  • Provide support to the organization’s capital development and fundraising efforts through Annual Giving Program.  
    • Develop, coordinate, train and manage annual giving strategy, process and volunteers, with a focus on donor acquisition and stewardship; create annual stewardship plan.
    • Evaluate and report progress of the campaign and identify and modify challenges as they arise.
    • Oversee planning and execution of Development events.
    • Direct fundraising for special events.
    • Tie capital development and fundraising to strategic planning.
    • Partner with marketing to vividly share our cause and positive stories of impact with employees, members and the community.
    • Work with Associate Director of Events and Stewardship to link staff to Development efforts.
    • Partner with data specialist to secure needed information to grow the campaign and increase fundraising effectiveness.
  • Create and manage financial development training and coaching for staff and volunteers.
    • Partner with Human Resources to develop staff engagement techniques related to Development, with direction from the Sr. Director of Advancement.
  • Oversee proposal development and grant administration.
  • Partner with consultants and contracted services in the area of financial development when needed.  
  • Manage response efforts and staff training for donors, committee members, volunteers and others directly affiliated with development efforts; ensure contributions are acknowledged accurately and timely, and communicate case for support.
Educational Background: 
BS/BA
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years progressive experience in fund-raising, annual giving campaigns and special events required.
  • Specific experience managing a personal solicitation process and demonstrated record of achieving annual giving revenue targets required.
  • Commitment to the YMCA’s mission and work as a cause-driven organization required.
  • Ability to create and articulate a concise message related to YMCA’s cause and case for support required.
  • Proven capacity to build long-term relationships with donors required.
  • Ability to coach and train volunteers and staff to assist them in carrying out their fundraising and committees/events responsibilities required.
  • Familiarity with the principles of annual campaign organization and marketing required.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical finance, and administration initiatives required.
  • Excellent writing, organizational and communications skills required.
  • Knowledge of YMCA marketing and branding concepts preferred or gained in first 6 months of employment required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Publisher required.
