This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director is a leader of the Aquatics department and develops and manages all aquatics-related activities, including progressive swim lessons, adult lessons, private lessons, water exercise, lifeguard supervision and training and specialty aquatic programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Sets agenda and leads weekly Aquatic department meetings; regularly strategizes department goals and priorities with Sr. Director of Operations
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives
- Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of all stakeholders
- Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
- Creates and manages pool schedules for internal departments and community organizations; maintains 3rd party contracts
- Collaborates with Marketing department on design and development of program materials; utilizes templates
- Partners effectively with marketing department to ensure Aquatic programs are successfully publicized
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance
- Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete
- Mentors and creates career development plans for the Aquatics Coordinator
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations; conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools

- Maintains visible presence at pool in order to support staff, ensure best practices, and foster member relationships
- Responsible for community outreach and as it relates to the growth of the Aquatics Department and aquatics programs in our region, including the development and management of off-site programs
- Responsible for performing rotating weekend supervisor shift duty
- Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, and substitute for staff as needed
- Develops and trains staff on department policies and procedures
- Participates in leadership committees, fundraising activities and special projects and additional assignments as needed
- Follows emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting accidents, incidents and hazards.
- Adheres to policies, rules and regulations, as outlined in employee handbook and other communications.
- Obtain and maintain required trainings.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred,
Skills/Experience:
- 5-7 years’ program director experience required
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Strong analytical and strategic planning ability required
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office required
- Accounting programs, membership databases, and mobile app experience preferred

Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $37,000.00 - $42,000.00
