This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Coordinator is a leader in the Aquatics department and assists the Associate Director of Aquatics in management of Aquatics operations. Primary responsibility is to oversee all Lifeguard operations, staffing, swim instruction and staff performance.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Prepare lifeguard schedules including monthly in-services and agendas
- Lifeguard and/or instruct up to 10-15 hrs/wk
- Substitute for staff as needed
- Manage member and staff relations during programming
- Manage additional assigned program operations and special events, including Red Cross, Water Fitness, pool parties and rentals
- Provide building tours as needed
- Recruit, interview and hire lifeguard and instructor staff
- Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations; conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools
- Ensure completion of weekly chemical tests
- Ensure completion of daily and weekly cleaning tasks
- Provide general department support, including but not limited to, responding to inquiries, data tracking, and reporting
- Maintain visible presence at pool to support staff, ensure best practices and foster member relationships.
- Perform rotating weekend supervisor shift duty and assist with special events
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Follow emergency procedures and safety precautions, including reporting accidents, incidents and hazards
- Adhere to policies, rules and regulations, as outlined in employee handbook and other communications
- Obtain and maintain required trainings.
- Execute lifeguard audits and implement GRIP program
- Share responsibility in teaching lifeguard certification classes
Skills/Experience:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard
- First Aid and CPR-PR/AED
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including strong proof reading and editing skills/
- Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents.
- Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft word, Publisher, Excel and Outlook.
- Available outside of traditional hours as needed: including morning, evenings and weekends.
Required Certifications, within 30 days of hire
- Blood borne Pathogens, Child-abuse prevention, Active Shooter, Anti-Harassment
- Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff
Required Certifications, within three months of hire
- American Red Cross First Aid, Lifeguard Instructor and CPR-PRO/AED
- Certified Pool Operator (within one year)
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or Water Safety Instructor
- YMCA Aquatic Fitness Instructor, Group Ex and others to meet program needs
Compensation/Benefits:
Hourly: $12.50 - $14.00
